Title: LAZER PARK NYC- Almost a sad story
Post by: MameMaster! on August 28, 2003, 11:26:58 am
Greets all....

I'm not sure how I feel about it...but there's a video game place in NYC called Lazer Park (off of Times Square on 46th) that now "features" a bunch of classic games.

Here's the problem......most are in pretty poor shape, but on the other hand most look like totally original cabs that have been enjoyed by folks for over 20 years.

The worst part though are a few "frakencabs".....mish mashes of repainted (badly) classic cabs and "classic games" such as Street Fighter II.

Here's a link to their ---smurfy--- web page:

Just so you know, the photos are definitely from when they opened in '98....they've squished a lot more into the place (it almost looks like a warehouse now actually).

On 42nd street itself is a MUCH MUCH better arcade called  "Broadway City". While they too have a "classics section" they use new cabs with the old boards. Not bad if you're jonesing for a large screen pacman machine this is the place to be!

That's all from gotham.

Most classics that I encounter on location are always in beat down condition. It simply comes with the territory. If it is on location today, then chances are pretty high that it has been on location continually since back in the day.

Galagas and Ms Pac machines seem to be in the worst shape of the bunch. Followed closely by Centipedes.

Although I did recently encounter a Tempest on location that was in fairly decent condition, and working all the way. That Tempest was the first vector I had seen on location since the skating rink traded in their Asteroids for a Pit Fighter back whenever Pit Fighter came out.

Other older games I have seen on location recently include Sunset Riders (4-player boardset in two player cabinet), Bad Dudes (dedicated), Centipede (beat up, and not on), tons of Ms. Pacs, Donkey Kong Junior, Space Invaders, Joust, Crossbow, Galaxian, Rush 'n Attack, and Pole Position II.
