ok...my wife is trying to remember a game from her childhood, but we are having no luck. Her memory of the game is very weak. This was a game she used to play on the PC. She believes it to be very similar to Maniac Mansion, but we dont think it was that game. She thinks it had "newer" graphics. She is pretty sure she used the arrow keys to move the character, not the mouse. Ok, here is the only part she really remembers ;)....at one point in the game, two dogs appear in the living room, and the goal is to make it upstairs before to dogs eat you. She believes she had to go in the kitchen and get a steak(or it could have been a bone from the backyard), then QUICKLY throw the object to the dogs before they attack you. You then could make it upstairs safely.
I told her maybe she was dreaming, but if anyone thinks they know what game this might be, it would be very helpful. Thanks!

A shot in the dark....The Secret of Monkey Island (http://www.scummbar.com/games/monkey1/solution_mi1.html)? It doesn't happen in the living room, but the rest of the description seems to line up.

I don't have a lot of experience on pc games, but I seem to remember a game that started out in a lobby and two doberan's show up. Could it be Resident Evil?

There are so many adventure games where you have to put a drug in some steak and give it to the dog lol
Full Throttle was another one

lol, she accually said that she thought they were dobermans...we are going to check some videos of the games mentioned here. I am going to see if she can pin down a year, that might help. I dont think it was resident evil, but we will check it out anyway. If she recognizes it I will let you know. Thanks!
**edit**
ok, after checking out all the videos, none of those rang a bell. She said she didnt think it was a pirate game, and the graphics were not as good as resident evil (her computer was a cheapie). She said that 1995 sounds about right for the year she played it, but i suppose it could be older. She also says she kinda remembers a room with potions in them, and maybe a crazy scientist guy( I am laughing at her right now because this sounds EXACTLY like Maniac Mansion hahahaha) She says she kept dying at the dogs over and over again. This is probably the lamest description of a game ever, but now i am determined! :)

I definitely played the one I remember in the Fall of 1994. In the one I remember, the dogs were on the first or second screen. I too couldn't figure it out and kept dying. I gave up on the game and tried Myst and the PC Atari Classics - Asteroids.
This game was most likely the reason I'm not into computer gaming. :P
Oh, and I also seem to remember that there were staircases on both the left and right side of the main lobby.
(perhaps mine is the second lamest description ever)

Day of the Tentacle or another Lucasarts SCUMM title?

Day of the Tentacle doesn't have a part with the dogs. It was an awesome game though.
Could it be one of the Alone in the Dark games?

I read a review or walkthrough or something about a Tomb Raider game. The dates don't match up with my memory, but it described the dobermans as 'black and orange patched' and that seems to be how I remembered them too.
Name: Doberman
Looks: A black and orange patched dog.
Attacks: Runs at you really fast and bites you (I hope he dosent have scabies
or nits).
How to Kill: Pull out a shotgun idealy as it takes just one shot to bring it
down. Hurry up when doing this because if it is too close you may not get a
shot. Like many animals in this game it can't reach high ledges so use
pistols to save ammo if you have a shot from above.
Found: Level 1,2,3,4,5,6,18

You should ask here -
http://www.adventuregamers.com/forums/ (http://www.adventuregamers.com/forums/)
If it's an adventure game, they are bound to be able to tell you with a description like that... really! I'm a regular round those parts, you see. Unfortunately I can't think of anything that hasn't been mentioned ATM though.

Thanks Dan... I posted a forum on that site and the first reply was the correct game!! It was Hugo's House of Horrors. Thanks for everyone's help!

I am always amazed by these posts and how so many can help in remembering a fond game memory with such few details. I love it when a plan comes together...
