Title: MAME Key Mapping
Post by: Grec on April 29, 2011, 06:52:09 pm
Hi guys,
I recently remapped my Player 1 Start button to Enter, just so other programs on my MAME cabinet would be easier to operate. Unfortunately, for some reason, mapping start to enter isn't working properly. I have P1 Start set to enter in the main button mapping menu, but if I go to the key mapping "for this game" it's always set to 1. Am I doing something wrong in regards to mapping Enter the default P1 start button?

I'd bet almost anything it's because you mapped it in the Player 1 Controls menu. Try mapping P1 Start to enter in the Other Controls menu instead.

Yeah, it doesn't make sense to me either. ;) But this'll probably fix it.

That totally fixed it. Thanks, I really appreciate it. It's been bugging me for a while.

It makes sense because 'other controls' is global.

Ok, I almost hate to ask because I'm probably missing something really simple, but what the heck does Player 1 Controls do then? :dunno

Game specific controls.

Gotcha. I think what was throwing me off is that we have the Input This Game menu for game specific controls, so I expected Player 1 Controls to be global.

Also, I swear I've played games where changing stuff in Player 1 Controls had no effect on the current game's controls. Weird.

It's like this: 'input (general)' is global; 'input (this game)' is game specific.

Setting player 1 inputs in 'input (general)' will set all games' inputs for player 1. In testing just now, changing the settings in 'general' altered the settings in 'input (this game)'.
