Title: U5000 no picture/low frequency squeal
Post by: Q*Bert_OP on April 28, 2011, 07:32:50 pm
I have a U5000 monitor that I'm working on. It had a shorted HOT, replaced and the monitor fired up...somewhat...

It is making a "squeal" like a low-res monitor should, but at a much slower frequency. I am running in 15K mode. There is no picture, but the over current shut down circuit is not activating.

I did a full re-cap to this monitor chassis 4 years ago, but it hasn't been used since.

IIRC, this has a SMPS?  Check over in the power supply section for the squeal.  Switch mode supplies can do that if abnormally loaded or sometimes just during normal operation.  May still be a dead component that isn't drawing enough juice to shut it down.

Be sure it has all three "service kits" (retrofits) installed:
