Whats the cheapest anyone has ever found one for? I need one for my project but the ones I saw were 33 + US Dollars. Any help appreciated.
-
That's probably what I paid.
-
I cant justify spending 33 dollars for a bit I will use 1 time :( I wonder if anyone is selling a used one..hmm...
-
Try finding a fly cutter bit. Should be a bit cheaper and it's adjustable to other sizes as well.

WOW! That is very expensive. Where are you located? Are you in Canada? If so, the Home Depot's in Canada have them for I think around $25 CDN, but I bought mine at Canadian Tire for about $15-$20 CDN.
Hope this helps!

do you own a router ??.... if so.... you can buy 1 of those circle things....
that thing can cut circles at increments of 1/16 in.... from like 3/4 in to like 7 in diameter....
I think it costs about $30 also....
if you're going to spend $30... might as well buy one of those so that you can cut more sizes....
-
yes, use teh router circle thing

What I did for my Happs 3" Highball Trackball was
first I had the mounting plate I had bought. Then i fixed the mounting plate to my control panel. Then I used that as a guide for my router. So I ended up with a perfect sized whole the exact same size as my mounting plate hole. Didn't cost me anything extra.

um went there. they dont have a 3" one for 5 bucks...

I got a 3" one for $12.00 at Menards, (I don't think they are local, but I am not completely sure). It screwed onto any standard drill bit. I used it once, and * GASP * I took it back. Half of them were allready opened from returns so I did not feel that bad.

It was on sale a couple weeks ago. I picked up both of the sets. AR is talking about this one:

I don't think it was $5, I think I paid $2.99 or $3.99. I almost bought 10 to distribute here, I guess I should have...

I apologize to anyone who thinks this is inappropriate, but some guys on Fatwallet were making fun of the Menards song and someone came up with the line "please don't kick me in me nards". Now I laugh every time I go in there.
<edit>Oh, you have to sing the line to the Menards jingle. You'll hear it about 20 times while you are there. I just picked up 6 sheets of 3/4 Maple Plywood for 29.99 tonight. Nice price.</edit>

Check out Lowes, or some place that sells the Black and Decker hole saw's... they run about $5/ea for even the big ones. They are a bargin for one-shot holes... don't stand up to a lot of drilling though.
I picked up a couple of them of varying sizes for about $5/ea

"please don't kick me in me nards"
I almost went insane hearing the commercials in that store, while searching for .187 disconnects amongst their wide selection of .250's. I've referred to the place as My-nards ever since. I have my own little version of their commercial - "discount whore-house" themed - I'm fairly certain it's not appropriate for the forum. ;)
(hint - a line of women singing "save big money! you save big money, when we *bleep* *edited* *censored*")
I seriously think they're trying to be subliminal with the shoppers. I can see an army of power-tool zombies, shuffling towards me with glazed eyes, chanting "save big money... save big money... shop menards... save big money... save big money..."

here's a pic of my circle cutter - is that the circle thing?
the package the thing in the picture came in was labeled "circle cutter." It worked ok with my power drill, but was very difficult to control. Probably would have worked better in a router, but I don't know how I would have fit the bit into the router I had.
Radius to the cutting blade, mounting of the drillbit, and depth of the blade relative to the tip of the drillbit were all adjustable with an allen wrench that came with it in the package.
Haven't seen one in the stores though.
EDIT: wuups, forgot the link. It must be bed time.

General Hand Tools makes those, Home Depot or Lowes should have them. Max speed on that style of circle cutter is 500 rpm, so I wouldn't advise trying to chuck one up in a router. They're primarily made for use with a drill press.

I just got another Harbor Freight Tools flyer in the mail. This set is on sale for $3.89 (item 36222). It is a coupon in the sales flyer, but last time I didn't need the coupon. Otherwise, the store usually has the flyers on site. Give the store a call if you have one local (or buy one of the better quality hole saws if you plan on using it enough).
