Title: Looking for slim cabinet dimensions
Post by: emb on April 22, 2011, 06:41:30 pm
Does anybody have any suggestions or references for some dimensions on building a slim cabinet? I am moreover looking for some dimensions to help base my design off of.

I was doing some sketches earlier.

Sorry for the blurry picture. I'm on a long road trip.

My biggest concern is having a base that protrudes out far enough so that it does not topple

Terminus Arcade:  http://forum.arcadecontrols.com/index.php?topic=92156.msg967763#msg967763 (http://forum.arcadecontrols.com/index.php?topic=92156.msg967763#msg967763)

There are a few others I like, one of them has a Tatio theme in brown, but I cant think of the link.

You could attach it to the wall and eliminate the need for a sturdy base.

That did cross my mind for a second spacejack. I then realized that the cab might be moved around several times since I have a "little one" on the way.

I was surprised that I forgot about the woody cab. Thanks EvilNuff. Unfortunately I didn't see any dimensions on the base of the cab.

I was doing some more searching and this one caught my attention.

Its based off of the woody cabinet.

I think my design will also be similar to the woody design.

This is kinda slim.  Knievel's Evolution: http://forum.arcadecontrols.com/index.php?topic=70519.msg723545 (http://forum.arcadecontrols.com/index.php?topic=70519.msg723545)

You don't have to worry about it toppling over. 3/4 inch mdf or ply is pretty heavy, and the LCD will probably weigh 20 lbs, max. Mine is 16 inches by 24 inches at the base and is plenty stable

Thats another nice cab by knievel. Does anyone know the dimensions of the base? I think if I have the base dimensions, I'll be able to go from there.

Does it protrude out 16 inches, or does it protrude out 24 inches?

I'm planning on making my cab 24" wide.

I've been looking at the same kind of project, and located this post in the huge Woody thread (insert Beavis laugh here) with a nice Sketchup model:

I'll most likely be basing my cab off of this.  I love the look of the awesome Terminus cab, but I suspect it's beyond my meager woodworking abilities...

FYI I built that sketchup model off of the Woody dimensions that Knievel posted that are linked earlier in this thread.  So its an attempt at least at accuracy. :)

Well, thanks very much sharing for that work... that model has been extremely helpful in my planning.  Other than expanding the cabinet width by an inch to accommodate a Defender bezel, I'll be following it very closely.
