I'm running an Ipac4, two u360s, and a utrak. Should I need a powered USB hub, or will passive be sufficient?

I'm pretty sure an passive hub would be ok in that situation, unless you've daisychained it to another passive hub. It's usually when LEDWiz's get in the mix with lots of LED's that you run the risk over pulling too much current.

I have an iPac4, a mouse-hacked trackball, a spinner and a trackball LED all running off a passive hub in my panel. Never had a problem.

I just fired up my CP with a cheapo 4 port hub, self powered. U360 worked fine, but when i plugged in the optiwiz 1 (supporting Turbotwist 1 and a Happ 3" TB) it didn't work. I have the windows XP standard sounds for usb connect/disconnect, and It sounded like a xylophone recital going on. Finally it gave up and said a usb device had malfuctioned.
everything worked when plugged direct to pc. Sigh, off to buy a 5v adapter for probably more than the hub cost.

I've had 3x U360's and I had to use a powered hub each time. I suppose it all depends on your own PC and if enough power is given through the USB sockets. Windows would detect the U360 and it would test ok in Windows, but would not function correctly in other software. As soon as I plugged in a powered USB hub it worked perfectly.
