Title: Rowe R-91 - record stops and starts - ER36?
Post by: wahumpe on April 16, 2011, 10:19:58 am
Just got a super bargain on a Rowe R-91 - My first jukebox. It plays great sometimes, other times the 45 stops turning for a moment and the starts up again a second later. Sometimes happens several times in a row, sometimes once in a while, sometimes not at all. The readout says ER36 when this happens. I don't have a manual yet (any help with that?) and  could use some advice on what to do to correct this. Thanks!

Error 36: Reject switch (a.k.a. "cancel" ) is being stuck closed. Could be the end-of-record magnetic reed switch or the cancel switch on either the back of the jukebox or on the remote volume control (if connected).

The manual you need can be purchased from either www.victoryglass.com (http://www.victoryglass.com) or www.alwaysjukin.com (http://www.alwaysjukin.com)

# 70-5768 (R-558) Rowe-Ami model R-91 Field Service & Parts Manual, 186 pages, $39.95

The above manual is a professionally offset printed & bound manual not some cheap photocopy.

Thanks Ken! Is there an easy fix for this? I'm completely new to Jukeboxes - haven't a clue... ???

Yes easy fix for the problem:

Test the end-of-record magnetic switch with an ohm meter and a magnet. The magnetic reeds inside the switch wear our due to metal fatigue and can get "sticky" contacts.

Test the back of jukebox cancel switch with an ohm meter. Also, check the wiring at the terminal strip for the remote volume/cancel accessory. Sometimes there may be wire "whiskers" left over from a previous disconnect. These "whiskers" can short to adjacent terminals.

Hi wahumpe,

Ken is correct with the code discription and to check the cut off switch, connections etc.
I would also check the reject button on the mechanism (to the left of the turntable) and the one on the rear of the machine to make sure that they are not shorted out.
