Title: Dolphin EMU questions
Post by: wonderalex on April 15, 2011, 12:41:23 pm
Hi there,

Is there anything I should know about running dolphin ( http://www.dolphin-emulator.com/ (http://www.dolphin-emulator.com/) ) in a cab?

I'm tempted, but I'm unclear how exactly it works in that environment - like: do I use my Wii CDs or do I have rip them to a hard drive?

Be seeing you,

WonderAlex

Well seeing as how almost all wii games use some sort of motion controls I'm unsure WHY you would want it to run in a cabinet.

AFAIK only certain pc dvdrom drives can read official wii games, so you would have to rip them on your wii and then copy the iso back to your pc.

I use Blue Dolphin for Colecovision, only, on my cab.

After some experimentation with it, I love it compared to the other EMU's for Coleco.

I know it is a lot more powerful and is used for new game systems and maybe someday I will try it for that (or maybe not, I'm a retro guy ;) ).

You mean Colem?

That's open-source and available on multiple pc platforms.

Yeah - since posting earlier today it has become more of a curiosity really.

Thanks for the info - this could be a start of a future project.

not so sure about wii support, since even Mario Bros and Donkey Kong country need some type of pointer to get ingame(trackball?).  As far as gamecube tho, I've gotten soul calibur 2 and gauntlet dark legacy running pretty well.  Been having problems launching from command line tho, and I haven't been able to find any really good documentation on that.

actually for both of those, if u were playing on the wii, u would have the remote turned sideways so u wouldnt be able to point. u just use the d-pad to select options. havent tried dkc but nsmb works. u can map a button for shaking the remote so that u can even still use the propeller suit. should work just as well on dkc. works good for fighting games as well like tatsunoko vs capcom. u'll need a pretty good processor (and video card i think) for it to run at full speed but its been improved quite a bit in the last year or so.

I have it launching in MaLa from the command line using:
Code: [Select]
/e "%path%\%rom%.%ext%"With no problems.  You do need to change a couple settings in dolphin under the display settings.  You want to check mark Start Renderer in Full Screen and Hide Mouse Cursor.  Or something like that.  The exact wording escapes my mind right now.

But I haven't found a good way to get out of it.  Mapping a button to Alt-F4 is the closest option.  But it first kills the game, and brings you back to the dolphin game launcher/menu.  Then a second Alt-F4 kills that, but then most of the time it causes Windows to want to send an error report because dolphin stopped working.

Well after a bit of searching, it seems there;s a "/b" option for batch mode.
Unfortunately if I launch from a batch file the program stops working after loading an image (dolphin /e image.ext), so a haven't been able to test.

Edit: well never mind. Apparently it works fine on my cab system, just not on my desktop one.  ::)
