Title: Power On problem with ELO ET1545L
Post by: Meph on April 14, 2011, 06:20:34 am
I purchased a used ET1545L Touchscreen off ebay and recieved it yesterday.  This is one of the common models that people have been using for their jukes and I have seen a couple older threads with the same issue as mine but none were ever resolved in the thread.  I can't seem to power this unit on.  I set the computer to 1024x768 which is the touchscreens native resolution before hooking it up.  There are 5 unlabeled buttons on the side, one of which sits away from the rest.  I have tried powering it on with each of them and also multiples together as suggested elsewhere.  The pdf manual for this unit on ELO shows a power button next to the power cord but that button doesn't exist and others with this unit have said they didn't have that button either.

So....is there some trick to powering this thing on that im just missing?  I emailed the seller and the response I got was that it needs a valid video source before it will power on.  Duhh....don't know why I didn't think of that first ;).  Now I am kinda lost on one thing.  There are 2 wires that come off this thing that I see in the pictures for most of them sold on ebay.  They are a red and black and they are shown in this picture.  Can anyone tell me what they are for.  If they are for a power switch im going to kick myself in the rump but I can't imagine its that simple.

The red and black are for an internal speaker. I didn't bother trying it out.

The ELO should power up briefly with its boot logo, even without a video input.  IIRC, that "loner" button is the power button. I had two occasions out in the workshop where mine didn't want to light up for some reason. However if I unplugged/plugged the USB for the touch screen, the computer did the customary "bong", which implied to me the unit was live.

I think I unplugged the power cord once or twice, and it came back on. I attributed the problem to the cold in the shop but who knows.  Haven't had any issues since. I had one other occasion also in the shop (and I have also seen this in my upright cab with a CRT) where the monitor didn't fire up until almost when XP was done loading.

Since my juke has been inside though, it has worked flawlessly.

Good luck.

When I had finally gotten around to testing it out last night it had sit in my living room for 4 hours in the packaging so it shouldn't have been cold.  Just to be sure though I tested it when I got home from work today.  It definately doesn't power up.  It makes no indication that its getting power at all.  No bong, no hum, no flickers, nothing.  I emailed the seller back and am waiting to see how he wants to handle this.  His return policy says I have to pay return shipping which I can handle but I expect for a defective item that im refunded the original shipping along with the purchase.  This is my first experience with an ebay return so we'll see how it goes.  Thanks for your info, just wanted to make sure I wasn't missing something.

Did you try a different power cord? I've had bum ones trip me up before. I used one from a PSU that had shorted while I was messing with it. Apparently the cord is fused internally too, or it just melted inside.  Either way, I had to trash it.

Yeah actually I took the cord off the monitor that was hooked up to that pc and it didn't work either.  The seller just responded with a return address and said I could do a refund or swap.  I'll take my chance with a swap since im still in the market as it is.  Hopefully the next one will be better.

you could probably repair the power supply, but since you have the option to exchange it i would do that first. i would mark first so if it comes back again you can tell. I'll bet he may fix it and send it back to you. (which may be just fine but something you should be aware of)

i place a small sticker dot near the serial# with an initial or number on it... looks like a factory assembly or inspection sticker but if it comes back i'll know it.

i once had a brand new motherboard (DOA) come back from asus service in a different box and a new serial number sticker over top of the original... still not working. they literally opened my box, placed a new serial number sticker on it, dropped it into another box and mailed it to me. i was pissed. I e-mailed the photo of the initial i placed on the board (i used a fine tipped marker to write "SA4" near the rear I/O ports) I placed on the board and the "replacement" board with it's identical marking and was promptly sent another.

I received the replacement today and everything works.  Now I just need to get my speaker issue worked out and then I can wrap this one up.  I can't wait to finish it because I really want to build something smaller next time.  Kiosk or Wallmount...this cabinet is a monster =)
