Had some problems with a few of the emulators in my newest set up.
Found the unzipping the contents of the ROM folder resolved these issues.
Now the only issue is I have "X" many versions of "X" game.
In the individual emulators options does MaLa let me exclude regions ? So for example on my main Sega Master System list it will only show US ROMs ?

Short answer is no.
Depending on what your roms are labeled as, you can use windows file search for 'USA' or '(U)' or whatever US only roms have in the set and copy the rest to another folder. Then painstakingly manually delete any extras or move them to another folder.
If someone else has a better way of doing it I'd also be interested in it.

you might peek at this thread:

but grasspuddle has nailed the problem. all you've got to go off is the filename itself. If there aren't any details as to country/language code or anything else, then there is nothing to search off.
If your SMS roms are TOSEC/goodTools named, then all those [J] [!] thingies in the filename would be your key in removing the files you want/don't want.

Thanks guys.
Might be a more simple task for me to simply compile a list of favorites.
Thanks again
