Title: questions on plunge routers and joystick recessing and all that good stuff
Post by: jamesjones626 on April 12, 2011, 09:11:43 pm
Im a total rookie when it comes to plunge routers so excuse my noobishness, but when you recess the wood for the joystick what bit do you use on the router?   I have the project arcade book and read the section on it but i missed the part about what bit to use.   Any help would be greatly appreciated.  thanks in advance.

It'll have a cutting edge on the sides AND the bottom of the bit.

Why do you need a plunge router for this?  Couldn't you just drill the hole for the stick, place the bit into that hole, then route from there?

(Just curious)

You can use the joystick hole to start the router cut so a plunge router is not an absolute requirement.

Sorry. They're called "Plunger router bits". I just googled it for the image.

I just used the same hole I drilled with the spade bit to route out the back. Worked great on the hole for my trackball and the joysticks. Turns out the layer of birch on my plywood is exactly 1/8" on each side (or so it seems), this made routing that much off even easier.
