So I have, hopefully, just a simple question.
I am making a new arcade machine soon that has 4 players. Now in my previous builds, I've only had two players. I have modified my MAME All Games list so that games such as X-men, only have the 2 player versions in the list. Now what I need to do is swap in the 4 player version of X-men into my All Games list, and remove the 2 player version. But I can't figure out how to do that. When I go into the Mala Gameslist editor, the games on the left column to choose from, are from my MAME All Games List (versus being from literally all the 7300 games available in MAME.) So how can I re-add in a game to the All Games list, once it's already been removed? I apologized if this was asked before, I looked but I didn't see anything that fit...

Sounds like in hindsight what you needed to do was make two custom lists and use the option to hide the all games list rather than edit the all gaems list itself
Anyway there may be hope,
Have you tried the other 3rd party GameList Editor (Thread pinned at the top of this forum)

Yeah, when I guess when I started the process, so long ago, I didn't realize that exactly. I wanted to display some sort of "All Games" list on my main menu, so I ran with it. Didn't realize that there was a master list I should leave untouched and hidden.
Well, I did get the desired games back in there.
What I did was make a backup copy of my All Games list and put it somewhere else.
Then I renamed it to something else, like, All Games2.
Then in Mala, on the All Games list, I right clicked and refreshed the main game list. This brought back all those games that I had deleted.
Then I moved my All Games2 game list back, and I modified it in the Mala Game List editor. This allowed me to add in games I wanted.
When finished I deleted the newly modified All Games list.
Then I renamed All Games2 back to All Games
So I guess that's a work around, should anyone ever make the same mistake that I did, and wants to re-add something back in, after having removed it.
For the record, I did try to other Gamelist Editor yesterday as well, before I posted, but I get an error message when I try to save my modified games list. I've attached the error here, although I know it's not something you support. I will have to post something on that thread, although I don't know if I will be using that game list editor all that much.
Anyway, thanks for the help, but I got it working.

Yes, Mala simply scans the rom folder and lists what it finds in the 'all games' list.

Well, initially, that might be the case, but once you remove a game from the All Games list, it gets removed (until you refresh). Anyway, yes, I think we've established that, thanks.

GameEx gives the option to delete the file when removing the game from the list. Otherwise, you have to do it manually. But, refreshing the main list is so....easy....I can't see changing anything. Now if I can just figure out why the MAME all games list appears (and locks in place) when transitioning from other emus.
