Someone told me about this the other day. They read it on some site somewhere (dunno where). Basically on the very first level of DK (barrel board) you have to complete the board by doing this:
#1 Kick the screen (touch or bounce off with a jump) behind the oil barrel on the bottom level
#2 Get to the top and kick the screen next to DK's right foot
#3 Back down the bottom and touch behind the oil barrel again
#4 Back up top, touch next to DK's foot a second time before finishing the screen
#5 Hammers can be used at any time
As Billy Mitchell would say... it's absolute brutality! I managed it once... but it took me so many attempts. You need some luck with the fireballs. I didn't think this challenge would get under my skin but it did. "Just one more go" Yeah right!

Sounds like the cheat from Crazy Kong.

Hmmmm... I don't know what you mean. This is nothing like the cheat from Crazy Kong. Unless I misunderstand you. The cheat in CK I know is to get to the top of the first unbroken ladder and then nudge the stick a tad right, then jump right and you fall through the bottom of the screen and onto the pie level. This challenge I managed to complete with just 100 left on the bonus.

Too rich for me, I was never a great DK player! Wish I'd known about the Crazy Kong cheat back at HiScore a few weeks back though!

Haha!!! But would they have allowed it? I know Twin Galaxies outlaw it for any scores submitted to them. That's why "officially" the kill screen is the barrel board... but you can reach the rivets screen which is the REAL kill screen. I did it myself in the arcade back circa 1983. (lol for arcade read local caf)

In all honesty it was the first time I'd played this clone and it's a strange mix of difficulties. It seems easier to progress and score higher, yet some parts seem so much better or difficult. For example:
1) The hammer does not flash before it expires, so it's more difficult to time.
2) The barrels have some random activity, such as rolling uphill at the end of platforms.
3) The barrel stage has nice pogressive changes, such as the girder gaps and hammers you can't grab (something that caught many out trying to).
4) The elevators are different and move much faster from the start.
5) The cement factory (or pie factory as it was referred), is quick if you move fast, but jumping the pies is dangerous due to very fast conveyor belts.
6) The flames on the rivet stage are the same as the one on the barrel stage, but move much faster than the original flames.
I'd love to get good at both games, but platformers make me angry when you die through a silly mistake or control slip!

Now that description means it must have been a Falcon CK. I never even seen one in the arcades. The CK's I used to play were always the Scramble or Galaxian hardware ones. I always found them much easier than DK. They started a bit faster than DK but never got any harder.
The barrel board was straight forward just like DK with no gaps in the floors or any barrels going uphill. Always only 2 fireballs on the pie level. The springs always come in pairs and never got any faster on the elevator level. The fireballs were fast on the rivets screen but it was always the same level of difficulty. Plus you could always run right across the top on the rivets screen whereas on DK you cannot. All this kinda explains why I could reach the kill screen on that machine but still stuck on a high score of 362K on DK @ level 10.

Yes it's the Falcom CK. You can't touch Kong on it either, and the other thing worth mentioning is that all the music and sound effects are also different, Kong looks different and animates differently too.

Just the other day I was thinking about the DK 'warp', but couldn't remember anything more, and forgot to check into it. So it's CK that warps. I'll try that right now....
It doesn't work on the ckong set (predictably, as that's the Falcon set), but does work on the Scramble hardware set (ckongs) just as descibed. The girder is normal distance there, so it doesn't look like it will work, but it does.
The color scheme of ckongs is *really* weird (god I'm blind after that), the sounds are very different and the music a different tempo, and the game play is even more different. Note in the second and third images where I didn't die jumping onto the elevator shaft thing, not even when the elevator platforms passed through me. Only if I jumped up and down when one was going through or was close by.

You should be able to do this with standard dkong.
I did the kicks... the fireballs are the hard part, that and climbing down... just not used to it. I think I could do it with save states in 10 minutes... Getting it done in one run, that would be hard.
