Hey there. I posted some questions in the main forum and got one answer, then figured out a few more on my own, but have some still that I'd like some input on, if you all don't mind.
1. My plans involve 2 8-ways and 1 4-way (I decided to ditch the switchable 2p). Can I use a simple on/off switch to disable the 4-way by wiring it to the 1p 8way, but with the switch in line with the 4-way ground or will that not work since the 8-way is wired as well?
2. I'd really like to stick to a simple layout involving 6 buttons each, 1/2p start, and 1 "shift" key, but have been advised against it. I'm currently using this set-up and it seems OK (using 2 ps3 fight sticks. p1 select is my shift). Am I missing something?
3. I will be using those ps3 fight sticks as the "brains" of the CP (so I can use the ps3 in the cab as well as a pc), but it requires 2 usb cables. So far MAME sees the same stick as p1 and p2, but will this always be the case (I'd hate to end up with a backwards CP at some point)?
Thanks taking the time to read this, and for any advice you can offer.

1. Should work as long as you disconnect the ground to the 4 way with your switch.
2. Alot of people have had their setups messed up by button smashing kids or adults who always hit the wrong combo. Once it is setup you probably will not need to change it often. Changing the shift key to another button that is hidden could solve that problem.
3. USB assignment should only change if you plug/unplug the controller or add another USB device. I only have one USB controller that I add or remove so I cannot guarantee this but it seems to be the way it works.

Thanks a lot.
Good to here that #1 should be doable. I could picture my gf messing with the 4-way during rounds of marvel vs capcom just to mess me up, if given the chance 8^]
As for #2, I plan to place the shift key at the very top-left corner of the panel, so it should be out of the way. The issue people seem concerned with is insisting there is no way mame can be operated without dedicated admin buttons (coin, pause, esc, etc), but i seem to be doing fine with my "p1 start=start, p1 coin=start + select, esc=select + left, etc" setup. I was just wondering if there was a situation I wasn't anticipating.
And for #3, I do need to unplug the usb cables as I will be using both a pc and at times a ps3 in the cab and will simply swap cables to switch platforms. So far it seems to work so long as i plug the same cord in first, so I'll likely just label them 1&2 and hope it never gets screwed up.
