Title: Fan of Who's Line? This ought to interest you then...
Post by: crashwg on April 06, 2011, 01:04:02 am
My wife and I are huge fans of Who's Line Is It Anyway? so when I heard most of the regulars are coming back to an improv show I had to look it up.  So it's coming to Game Show Network which is kinda strange if you ask me but whatever.  It's premiering April 11th at 8pm then reairing at 11pm.  The sad news is that Wayne Brady isn't going to be a regular but he's at least in the premier so that's good.

Anyways, just thought I'd share in case anyone missed this.

I was interested until I realized you were talking about the people from the US version.  The BBC crew was so much better.

I like both versions.  :)

Looking forward to seeing this show. Thanks for the heads up!

The sad news is that Wayne Brady isn't going to be a regular but he's at least in the premier so that's good.

Here let me fix that for you:

The good news is that Wayne Brady isn't going to be a regular but unfortunately he's in the premier so that's bad.  ;)

Seriously... Wayne Brady instantly lowers the quality of anything he appears on.

Thanks for the link though, I'll be sure to check it out!

Wayne Brady can improve music like nobody else....beyond that, yeah, he's not a spectacular comedian. Colin Mochrie is even better. Although the reason Colin Mochrie is funny is because he can fail so badly you can't help but laugh at it.

It was his singing (and the fact that every episode turned into a "singalong with Wayne") that turned me off of the US version.

Dude, that complaint stopped being cool 8 years ago.  Even bitching about the US version of The Office ceased being cool awhile back.  Move along.

The US version of the Office was much better than the BBC version.  My preferences have absolutely nothing to do with who came first or how funny the actors talk.

And I have never been cool.

Ditto.

But in all honesty EVERYTHING about Wayne Brady is terrible.

He can't sing (unless you like white-bread pop music performed in a mediocre fashion). He isn't funny.  He's a terrible actor.  To top it all off he is the whitest black man since carlton from the fresh prince.  I really can't say enough bad things about Wayne Brady.

The only good thing I can say is he seems like a nice person and is very approachable.  It is unfortunate that he sucks at everything.

It's not cool to disagree with me, as of 8 years ago.

I might have liked the UK Office a lot better if I didn't have so much trouble with their accents.  I actually had to turn subtitles on to follow it.  Certain Brit/Scots accents sound like Charlie Brown's teacher to me.

The US version of the office is superior.  Even assuming you thought the UK version was superior I don't think anyone would go so far as to say the US version sucks or is even bad in anyway.

So then it comes down to simple math..... 12 UK episodes vs a buttload of US episodes.  US wins!

14 episoides, the uk version was a story told from start to finish and had far greater depth. i find the Us version as funny just not so deep, a lot of comedy writers in the UK think that 2 series is the pinnacle for a comedy because of faulty towers

Fawlty Towers is a damn good show. John Cleese at his absolute finest.

Wayne Brady on Dave Chapelle still remains a high-water mark for that show. Next to the Charlie Murphy Hollywood Stories, it's probably the funniest 8 minutes of millennium television. Granted, that is as much about the writer's work as Wayne's, but it's still amazing stuff.

Hey everybody! I work with GSN and wanted to jump in here to see how you have been enjoying Drew Carey's Improv-A-Ganza!  Most of the 'Whose Line is it Anyway' cast is back plus a few others, do you have a favorite? I've always been a Ryan Stiles fan and I have really enjoyed seeing Drew get right in the action! I also wanted to let you know that there are new episodes every week night at 8:00PM ET/PT (re-airing at 11:00PM ET/PT) and if you want to catch up on past episodes, GSN has them available on the show's website.  (http://tv.gsn.com/shows/improv/video):)

I have watched about 4-5 episodes so far. It's pretty funny, and the cast is larger than who's line so it feels a bit fresher from episode to episode.

Anyway, its worth a watch!

One of my favorite's from WLIIA:

Whose Line is it Anyway, Captain Kirk vs Mr Spock (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CEM3HDOd0U0#)

I totally agree with you Vigo! The bigger cast definitely makes it more free form, especially with Drew performing instead of just being a host. I wasn't sure how his skits would be, because we are all so used to seeing the usually players, but I can truthfully say that I have been pleasantly surprised so far. The new games have also added to that "fresher" feel that you mentioned, rather than just have the guys stand in a line like on WLIIA they get to use the full stage which gives them more game options, like the Mousetrap game which was painfully hysterical! Does anyone have a favorite game?  I personally love "Freeze"! Did anyone see the one episode where an audience member yelled out "freeze" and the guys made him get on stage and join?  Talk about unpredictable!
