First off:
What type of battery is inside the respective controllers?
Li-Ion for the PS3.
NiMH for the Xbox 360.
Is that correct?
Second, and the real purpose of this post.
What are the dimensions of the PS3 battery? Anyone know?
The Xbox 360 batteries look like they're 2xAA size (based on a break down I spotted). Is that correct?
-
Yes. The PS3 battery is Li-Ion, and is similar in shape and size to a cell phone battery.

Damn, I thought it would fit. Really like the Li-Ions for this. Didn't expect to find what I found.
Maybe I can use the NiMh AA batteries. I wonder if they make NiMh in a AAA size? Oh well, back to the drawing board.
Thanks!

Yeah, here is a link to the PS3 controller battery:

Energizer has a pretty good deal... you can get a charger cradle that holds two games, with batteries from around 20-35 bucks. I'm not a fan of the 360's official charging solution. Plugging in a controller while playing to charge it is lame.

As opposed to not playing at all while you wait for your battery to charge? You can do it that way too if you prefer.

Not really.... the 360 isn't fully "off" when you do that and it interferes with the hdmi connection on some setups.
In case you meant it the other way:
The way you use a cradle is you put your controller in it at all times while you aren't playing.... unless you play for 18-20 hours at a time you will NEVER run out of juice while playing so long as you remember to put it back on the cradle when you are done.

I meant you can use the play and charge kit to charge your controller while plugged into a PC, or a powered hub, or an AC to USB adapter. Or you could use the official quick charge kit to charge batteries from AC.
But I feel comfortable letting mine charge connected the the 360. It only stays powered until the charge is complete, doesn't mess with my HDMI, and hasn't caused a problem for me in the 4 years I've been using it.

ps3 controllers are beast
I have a dualshock3 for almost 3 years and it still works :dizzy:

what are you trying to accomplish here?

Well yeah, but for that you have to plug a cord into your controller, plug the cord into something (360 or hub) and have all that mess lying around while it is charging. When you are ready to play you have to unhook all of that mess and put it somewhere. With a cradle you just sit the controller in it's holder, which gets it out of the way AND charges it. There are no cables to mess with and fewer steps, so a person is less likely to forget to hook it up for charging or be outright too lazy to hook everything up after each play session.
I started using cradles when I got my wii because the wiimotes eat the batteries like candy. I was reluctant at first but now I could never see myself using wired chargers or regular rechargable batteries again. It is just far more convenient to use a cradle.

Are you asking me?
-
yeah were you just wondering or looking for the best battery's for both or?
-
I'm building a wireless controller and was trying to decide on the battery pack.
-
what type of wireless controller are you building a pad or are you building an arcade stick.
