How would you use that editor in a cab?

Edit: Guess it wouldn't matter. After reading about it (instead of just watching the video), the editor isn't needed for standard game play. I will be downloading this soon!

Looks like someone was on crack when they designed it.  Is it really as schizophrenic as the video makes it out to be?

Wow great find.  Thanks for sharing.
Looks even more fun than Super Mario War.  Looking forward to playing some battle mode on the cabinet.

Uhmmm... I downloaded this game on my laptop, and it plays; but when I try to play it on the pc in my cabinet it won't run, no error messages or anything just kinda bogs everything down and stops responding.  I'm wondering if I have to have an internet connection to make this game run (don't have one on my cab, don't want one on my cab...)?  It looks like my pc meets the specs required to run this thing, any thoughts on this?  Please help

Oh thank you for replying...
Laptop is vista:  Pc is xp
and don't know exacts of 32/64, laptop is newer and I'm quite sure does both, pc is circa 2004 with updated yet cheapo graphics card and basic xp install... soo 32?  I don't know these technical terms, I had a dude that helped with all that.

Edit*  The level editor part will actually bring up the loading screen before it freezes up, if that helps...

I believe I tried to run this game without my internet connected the other day.   There is an intro screen that comes up with something like a "launch game" and "launch level editor" type buttons on it.  This home page does try to access the internet, I know that much.  But it should still load, but the screen content will just not be there.   But once you click the "launch game" button and play the game itself, I don't think that needs an internet connection.  I could be wrong on that.  I think I just started a game and played for a few seconds.  So there wasn't any level of extensive testing on that...

If anyone has any idea on how to launch the game directly, and bypass that first screen, I'd be interested in knowing how to do that.  I don't plan on doing the level editor, and for the sake of launching the game from my Mala game menu, it would seem like launching directly into the game would be the best idea...

Yeah, it's a great game but I've never been able to get it to launch from a FE.

Seems like it crashes in any resolution under 1024x768 in Windows XP.

I played this game in single player mode for about an hour.  Pretty decent, but the level design so far is kinda easy and boring to me.  If you've played all the official nintendo games this is a piece of cake.  Maybe it gets much harder later on.   I do like the remixed music though, and it has nice bright colorful graphics from all the different games meshed together well.

Sometimes when I play games like these it makes me wish I could build a little cocktail or red-tent style cab that is set up specifically for these types of indie PC games.  It would need a higher res monitor, and probably a little analog stick and tracball for a mouse.

Thanks Jack... betcha that's it I'm on a really weak resolution since my "monitor" is an older 27" television running s-video, I'll give the resolution adjustment a shot.

Good to know - tried Win7/64b last night on my cab at 800x600; after the launch screen, I got nothing.  I'll try upping the res.

thx

Yeah, it's a great game but I've never been able to get it to launch from a FE.

I was just playing around with this today.  It's not a perfect solution, but you could use a VBScript file to launch it.   I have a .vbs file with this code in it:

Code: [Select]
Set WshShell = WScript.CreateObject("WScript.Shell")
WshShell.Run "C:\Users\Administrator\Desktop\SMBX\smbx.exe", 1
WScript.Sleep 200
WshShell.SendKeys " "

You will see that first screen flash still, very briefly, but it should launch the game.      I think that launching via this method may cause some issues with LedBlinky, if you use that, and intend to light up some controls though.   But it's a start.  You should be able to add it to a front end that way, though I haven't fully tested it yet.

This whole "only over 800x600" resolution is a problem though.   The rest of my cab and all the software is configured for 800x600...

Tried upping res to 1024x768, Win7/64b, using TV

Game worked fine.  However, it started in a window that looked ~800x600 :)  The "full-screen" mode made it full-screen, but didn't change the game's resolution, leaving a big unused area.  In windowed mode, maximizing the window made it do a real full-screen.  Fortunately, controls are configurable, so it should work fine on most cabs.

Now, just need a launch script which can flip resolution prior to starting the game  ;D  That, or fix the game to run in lower resolutions.

After seeing this thread I downloaded Super Mario X. I finally played it today and it is a BLAST. I just played it on my computer with an old Logitech controller.

I can't believe that a game like this was put together by fans. It is so much fun, especially if you are a huge fan of the Super Mario Series. AMAZING!!!
