hey peeps
ive been scouring craigslist everyday here in philadelphia for empty or near empty cabs for little to no cost. got done work early today and as im eating lunch searched 'arcade' on CL and bam!!! a guy about a half hour from me had 2 upright cabs for $50 ($25 each). called him up immediately as the pics he posted looked pretty good and ive been dying to get my MAME on. the larger of the two is a 90's generic, was used as a Marvel vs. Street Fighter, even has the cp with buttons and joys plus an info card on the bottom of the bezel. the smaller was a game called Blasteroids by Atari, date stamped inside said December 1988 and it has its sideart whichs is in decent shape. both cabs had monitor glass!!!!(smoked) but only the MvsSF had marquee glass. both had light fixtures and speakers but no coin doors. both have all body panels and look to be in great shape all things considered and for $50 i cant complain :) both will be MAMEd but i think only fighters on the MvsSF and everything else on the Blasteroids.
ive attached the pics that were on the craigslist ad but once i get a chance ill take better detailed pics and start a project thread in the appropriate forum :D wish me luck!

thanks guys :) i wont lie, i did a happy dance once i had them in my garage. the Warcraft cab im scratch building is gonna be cool and all but now i have real live arcade machines. its on another level as you all know. the Blasteroids even has a coin counter still in bottom and it says 26300. if thats single quarters its something like $6500. knowing that a machine i have actually made money being so fun is awesome.

nope :( the guy i got it from didnt have it either. he said how i see them is how he bought them 6 months prior. they just sat in his basement and he never did anything with them and finally decdided they took up too much space. me being the nice guy i am wanted to help him have more room >:D id never heard of Blasteroids before seeing this cab so i dont know what the controls look like.

Blasteroids was the sequel to Asteroid Deluxe (it went... Asteroids, Asteroid Deluxe, Blasteroids). Its a raster (not vector) game. The control panel is red/green (for the red/green ship) and has 2 spinners on it.

Nice starting point. Price was good. Free would have been better for helping him make space in his basement but you cannot have everything. ;D

BobA, i was just happy to find 1 empty cab for a decent price let alone 2!! theres one listed now on Philadelphias craigslist thats an Mortal Kombat 1 cab with nothing in it except wires selling for $100. guy says hes got the cp but is keeping it. i count myself verrry lucky :D i cant wait to start ordering stuff >:D

Not exactly. Space Duel does count in the series....
It's somewhat arguable whether the Blasteroids should be re-stored.

Blasteroids was one of my faves, getting to kill Mukor at the end was a rush, and expensive! For MAME cabs you couldn't have done much better.

had a few minutes today to check out the cabs and it turns out the bigger "fighter" cab was actually born a Wrestlefest. took the buttons out of the cp and the wiring harness was scary. wires were super thin and there was no order.

You guys in the States are so lucky to be able to find this kind of stuff. I really would like a Donkey Kong machine but those blue cabinets were never sold here in the UK. So they need to be imported and that means mega bucks! No point importing a shell or something that needs a lot of work. I would be willing to import a DK machine but the condition would have to be very good which again means the total outlay just keeps going up. :banghead:
