Title: SuperModel FINALLY released!
Post by: Howard_Casto on April 01, 2011, 08:51:57 am
In case you missed it.. the thing is finally out.  No sound and a few of the games are unplayable, but check it out.
(And no... it's not a April Fools Joke)

I've been playing with it all morning.  On some of the games you have to adjust the frequency a bit, but all in all most games are fully playable and most run at a playable speed!  Check out scud racing as it's almost 100% and looks down-right amazing.

My driving cab has been salivating over Bart's WIP vids for a while now.
Gonna give it a go tonight.
Hopefully sound and analogue input aren't too far out.

I'm wondering where the Demul team is on M3.
Ca4e3 made a random comment about force feedback working, so it must be fairly far along (unless he was just messing with people).

I first tought it was an april fools joke. But i tested star wars and it works quite well. Still some bugs and no sounds, but let's hope that's just the beginning. It is also a good thing that it is an open source project.

I tried Star Wars Trilogy with my AimTrak lightguns last night. Amazing! There is nothing like doing the lightsaber duels with a lightgun instead of that awkward flight stick they gave us in the arcades. Swinging my lightgun around the room to swing the onscreen lightsaber felt way more intuitive.

Try it if you have a Topgun or AimTrak. I still haven't recovered from the pure bliss of lightgun/lightsaber dueling last night!

Yeah, you do. I have it running very smooth at 1280x960 fullscreen on my Core i7/GeForce GTX285.

On my other rig it barely keeps a steady framerate at 640x480 (Core 2 Duo 2.66GHz/Nvidia Quadro NVS290).

Bart says its all in the GPU so at least I don't have to upgrade my entire MAME cabinet PC to run it once Supermodel is finalized. Hopefully I can get away with upgrading only the video card.

Well you do know that 640x480 is pretty close to the native resolution of model 3 right?  They are just medium resolution games... no svga.

Yes, I know. I was wondering about this myself. I'm a fan of straight authenticity when emulating, but its such a huge difference in quality when you up the res on SW Trilogy. All the models look so much smoother at 1024 or 1280. Very noticable.

Well I think the thing is you aren't watching them on a medium res monitor.  They should look great via component out on  a 480p monitor.

I agree the models look better on a computer monitor though.
