Title: Any Ham radio/CB enthusiasts here? Or even someone knowledge about electronics..

in general? An friend of ours passed away who was huge into CB/Ham. I picked up various items from his estate including transceivers, mics, etc. One of the coolest units is a Swan 500cx transceiver with a 117xc power supply. Unfortunately, when I plugged everything in and flipped the switch, there was a pop, followed by smoke, a familiar site to any of us who worked on an arcade machine, I'm sure. I know nothing about these units so I'm wondering if anybody out there might have an idea what went wrong.

Any help is greatly appreciated.

If it had not been used for a long time capacitors dry out and pop.  If it was not connected to a proper antenna and ground depending on how the controls were left it could also damage the tranceiver.  Don't use it if you do not have a ham license as you can be fined by the FCC.

Just for your info that unit puts out 100 times the output of a CB rig.

Open it up and look for smoke trails / burnt components...

I used to be into CB back in the day...  I had an old base station, the tube variety.  On a good day, and with some skip, I could talk to people in Canada (I lived in VA at the time).  Picked up GB once.
