Title: Mounting Sanwa's into 3/4" MDF

Has anyone done it? If you top mount, you have to route around the switches and that leaves a very thin area to drill, it might break. If you bottom mount, the stick is way too short. I really don't want to have to buy a longer stick. Any tips?

Actually that is for a JLF not a JLW. The JLF has a wider mounting plate. The JLW looks to be much harder to mount. Anyone mount a ball top JLW into 3/4" MDF?

I suppose so, but I just wondered if there was a specific tutorial for the JLW's. There is almost no difference between the width of the mounting plate and the switches underneath. It looks like a tough mount. The JLF's look easy.

JLW is just like the u360. same top mounting plate anyway. Have a look at my thread in my signature, I essentially did this by fabricating an oversized aluminum mounting plate, and bolted the stick in from underneath. Works perfectly. Even better, you can easily remove the entire stick from below without disrupting cpo graphics if done this way.

You can use one of these mounting plates, cut out a square opening and just route so it then sits flush and then its like mounting the joystick in a metal panel.

If you are going to cover your control panel with plexi, I would agree, this is the way to go. If you are going to cover in polycarbonate vinyl, like something from gameongrafix.com, I would fab your own. The Ms. Pac mount is very recessed,and leaves quite a bit of 'void'. It also expects top mounted carriage bolts, so if you don't want those on your control panel, thats something to consider too.

i mounted my JLWs in 5/8" mdf (with 1/8" plexi on top)...i routed out an area on the bottom of the panel, about half the thickness of the board and bottom mounted them.  i used bolts, countersunk on the top, that sit under the plexi. this panel has been in place for a while now, and has been abused by quite a few children and they are holding up strong.
