Title: Getting Started with a MAME Conversion...
Post by: SpongeFreak52 on March 20, 2011, 03:22:14 pm
Hey all,

So I finally got my hands on an X-Men 4 player cabinet for a decent price, and I'm just about ready to start ordering parts to turn it into a MAME cabinet. I've done some research, and it seems like I'll be wanting to order the following parts:

-IPAC-4, (since the 2 or JPAC won't have enough inputs)
-VGA Breakout cable, (I have a Wells Gardner 25K7197, so I assume that it's designed to work well with its inputs)

I was also planning on using Soft15 on the computer I plan to put in it, since an ArcadeVGA card isn't in my budget at the moment.

Does anyone have any suggestions or alternatives I could look at? I'm planning to spend around $90-100 for the 2 parts listed above ($65 for IPAC-4, $12 for VGA breakout, and about $16 shipping), so if anyone knows where I can grab those parts cheaper, that'd be great.

Thanks much, hopefully I don't seem like too much of a newbie on here! :)

You are also going to need a RGB amplifier to get the color signal levels up to where that monitor wants them to be. If you don't do this, the pix will be dim and washed out looking. Ultimarc has those I believe...
