Hello all,
As some of you may have been following in my other thread, I been interested in the Dreamcast lately and I am kind of on the fence about going with hardware or emulation. Since emulation is fairly easy to try out, I figured I would try that route first.
Well, as the underlined words have it, I have been having anything but an easy time getting an emulator to work.
My first attempt was to install Lxdream, which is a Dreamcast emulator for Linux. That failed because the project is still in Beta testing and just runs ridiculously slow.
Now I am going back to Windows XP and trying out the defacto standard for Dreamcast emulators, Nulldc. This too has met with failure as it seems that the download is an incomplete package.
Let me explain:
1) After I unpacked NullDC and put it in it's place on my hard drive, I attempted to open the program and was greeted with a MSVPCP100.dll not found.
2) After searching on-line, I found this site:
http://www.emuparadise.org/Sega_Dreamcast_Emulators/Windows/NullDC/39 (http://www.emuparadise.org/Sega_Dreamcast_Emulators/Windows/NullDC/39)
3) I followed all the instructions there and I pretty much got to the end and I get now ANOTHER error message. This time the program is looking for d3dx9_42.dll:
"This application has failed to start because d3dx9_42.dll was not found. Reinstalling application may fixed this problem" & "Unable to load dkrPvr_Win32.dll plugin, errorlevel=104"
Since the fellow in the above post says he still can't get it to work after finding and putting the d3dx9_42.dll in the NullDC folder, I quickly surmised that I am being led on a wild .dll chase as it appears that the version of NullDC that I downloaded is an incomplete package.
In simplest terms, the reason why I am here is if someone could possibly help me fix this or perhaps there is a better version of NullDC I should be downloading.
Thank You,
Geo

Follow the instructions to get the DirectX files needed. You may download the installation files there too.

I had the same problem and this worked. Please install in the order below:
When this emulator was developed the programmer used some of the standard Microsoft programming tools. You will also need these basic programs installed on your computer if they are not already installed.
*Install these in the below order; C++ first, then DirectX
Microsoft Visual C++ 2010 Redistributable Package (x86)
