Title: First cabinet refurb! Expert advice please!
Post by: idsane on March 16, 2011, 10:55:25 pm
So I just got a 4 player TMNT cab after searching for over 6 months for a cab to refurb. It is in OK shape, but has damaged corners and wood, laminate damage on front, bad paint job on side, t mold, etc. Looks like it has been converted many times. I am thinking my process would be the following, and would appreciate input:

1) remove monitor, parts, etc
2) hair dryer remove damaged laminate on front
3) sand paint off sides and glue from removed laminate
4) bondo glass the broken corners and other dings
5) remove t mold
6) apply new laminate to front and sides
7) new t mold
8) cab should be looking good and ready for computer, monitor, etc

Thoughts appreciated! Pics to come!

First and foremost, welcome to BYOAC forums!

Before handling a monitor read this:

http://arcadecontrols.com/arcade_technical.shtml#Understanding (http://arcadecontrols.com/arcade_technical.shtml#Understanding)

if you are intending to restore the cabinet with original parts have in mind that there is NO source for TMNT sideart reproductions. If your intention is to MAME the cabinet then you're posting on the wrong section and it should be in Project Announcements.

DOH! You are correct I am not restoring to it's initial state but making a MAME out of it. Can an admin move this please? And thanks for the welcome!
