Does it really matter? I have some huge wire laying around and I'm anxious to wire my controls tonight but I may just wait till tomorrow and go to those annoying salespeople at radioshack and get some smaller guage wire.

Wait until tommorrow, and get a more regular size.
I tend to use old hacked up wiring harnesses for my wiring. I have lots of them, and the wire is usually all different colors anyway.

Use 20-22 gauge.

I had 14 gauge lying around and used it for my CP :o
It worked, but I am going to replace it. The darn wires barely even bend around things. Making changes, finding bugs, is very difficult.

I used 16 gauge. It fit fine into the .187 disconnects I got, but was a bit big for crimping Molex pins. I still got the Molex crimped on, and so far they've held up through several plugs and unplugs, but I am carefully adhering to the "don't pull on the wires, pull on the plug" rule.
Otherwise the 16 gauge was fine. If that's what you have, go for it.

I went with 18.....imo 20 was to fine....
