Title: Question is there a way to shrink the screen on a kortex KT-2001
Post by: pathfndr on March 09, 2011, 02:25:17 pm
I am trying to bring the screen in horizontal, it is sticking out on both sides. V-height works great to bring screen in top and bottom. I have tried all the dials and nothing. Maybe it cant be done. But maybe someone has some info on the problem. The dials i have are h sub pos, bright, h hold, v hold, v height, h pos, v pos and a big dial with special hole that needs a different tool and when i turn seems to do nothing. H sub pos and h pos only move pic back and forth on the screen Thanks. ???

On the chassis there is a round coil called the horizontal width coil. The diameter is maybe the size of a nickel, with a hollow center that has a threaded screw, which requires a special allen/hex driver to adjust. DO NOT use a metal tool to adjust this with the unit on or you will toast your fingers fast, and may cause damage to your moniter. The special PLASTIC adjusting tools can be found online from various electronic suppliers. Also, I recommend letting your moniter powered on for an hour or so to warm things up, the adjusting screw is plastic and extreme care should be given in your attempt to adjust as the coil and screw become fragile from age and the heat its been exposed to. Dont force it, if your not able to adjust it, you'll need to find a new coil.

Assuming it was set reasonably at the factory way back when (which it probably was), there's a good chance you just need to replace some capacitors on this thing.  It's actually way easier than messing around with what is a probably seized up width coil.
