I'm going to build an analog stick panel for my MAME, which will be used for pre-'86 games only, so I really would prefer the stick to be traditional-looking, a ball-top would be my first choice. I'd prefer it to be USB, but wouldn't be unwilling to by an interface for a great stick.
Can anyone recommend one that they've used?
Thanks,
Ryan

If you're going analogue, just go with a u360. Interface built in, supports buttons. If you find it's too loose, get a stronger spring, or if it's throw is too long for your tastes, circular restrictor.

What games are important to you? That makes a big difference. You will need an interface no matter what you buy, if you are going to use a REAL arcade type stick.

Off the top of my head, Sinistar, Food Fight, Red Baron, all 3 Star Wars, any of the hall-effect games from that era. I definitely don't want a trigger stick, especially the ones that are molded for the right or left hand. The Ultimarc is looking like my best bet... I had forgotten about the fact they offer such a stick, I thought I was limited to the Happs stuff, which is all pretty pricey and the descriptions are pretty weak. The Ultra definitely has the look I want. I'll do some searching that one and see how people like it.
Are there any others that I should consider?
Thanks for the replies,
Ryan

I would go with the u360. I like mine, playing sinistar is aw-some!

The original trigger sticks were unisex....
I argue you'd want one for Red Baron...although I swear the machine I played had a sort of dual handled yoke. Star Wars requires one.

U360's are a great stick. They suit exactly what you ask for (old ball top) and are easy to set up to whatever you like.
