I need to make a kid-friendly list of games for a 4-year old girl. Has anyone done this? or is there a list of games anywhere listed by age or rating?
or a rom sorting program that does this?
-
Yes, currently building a MAME and would love to know some games to get my (currently 2 and 1/2, but by the time finish the cab she will be 7 years old) daughter started on. Maybe games with an easy mode? Pac Man with only one ghost?

I've never put together such a list, but Pac Man, Ms. Pac man, etc... would be on there along with Bubble Bobble and Puzzle Bobble/Bust-a-Move.

My son is 2½ and for him, the joystick games don't really do much. He usually holds it in one direction and then gets stuck and frustrated (games like Pacman). Eventually once he gets older he'll learn, but for now he does really well with trackball games. In particular: Hamsterball, Feeding Frenzy 2 and most MAME bowling games. It's amazing how his hand eye coordination has developed over time.
Hamsterball is great because if you play the "time trials" levels, there is no time limit counting down. It counts up and you can take as long as you want. Also, you have unlimited lives. If you fall off, etc you don't have to worry. Great learning curve. Goes for $14.99 but it's worth the money. You can download the demo here: http://www.raptisoft.com/download/hamsterballsetup.exe (http://www.raptisoft.com/download/hamsterballsetup.exe)

Feeding Frenzy 2 Goes for $19.95 (I bought mine way cheaper on sale).

Let's Play Feeding Frenzy 2 - 01 - Levels 1-6 (No Commentary) (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ot0SqHHbH9s#)
Good Luck!

Oh yes ... I am not sure how I forgot "Feeding Frenzy" and "Feeding Frenzy 2"

Frogger is easy for kids too.

My 4 year old son loves Dig Dug and Pacman.
-
My 10 yr old likes 1942, Rampage, and Kickman/Kick.

1944 with invincibility on.
I find that my kids LOVE playing on the arcade machines but the games are mostly too hard (they were meant to eat quarters after all). With practice they have gotten good at a few (and by good I mean they can clear a level or two) - Dig Dug, Circus Charlie (trampolines), Ms. Pac-Man, Galaga '88, TMNT (after putting in like $10) and Ladybug to name a few...
