Nice article DaveMMR lol.

The main thing that has always bugged me about banning violent videogames versus rating them is the assumption that so many lawmakers have that video games are only played by kids...they forget about all us Gen Xers still playing video games.  I believe Australia and Germany (I could be wrong on specifics) ban violent games and remove content versus rating them...(IE you can get the game without the violence but not with (even as an adult).  That just seems wrong to me.

Most ---smurfs--- like Jack Thompson are purely clueless about violence in any media. ban or suppress the violence pushes it under ground. Eg snuff and beastality films are illegal (in my state anyways) yet you can still find them.

There's not much point in even discussing it really. Those who support the violence aren't going to change their minds and those who oppose it won't change their minds either. As long as the status quo remains, that's the best any of us can hope for.

Well the problem is most politicians have never played video games, or at least never played video games beyond pacman.  While there are a few "young" people in the house, and by young I mean slightly under the age of 40 they don't have any real power as they are the minority.  You look to the other two branches of goverment and the average age is around 70....  far too old to understand the gaming landscape.

The problem with the goverment managing media, art and technology is that the goverment has to be young enough and fast enough to keep up with said media, art and technology.  This just isn't going to happen until a special committe is created to help with with such fast-paced problems.  Or until they quit meddling in things beneath the scope of goverment, but until the republican party is utterly destroyed that will never happen.

He's either talking about "Bulletstorm" or the new "Gotta Go" version of "Baby Changin'".

I'm still waiting for the 'make love' video games. It's always been blood or smut. Or both.

Yeah, it's fricken ridiculous in Australia. Up until the '70's Australia was one of the most hip swingin' nations on earth. Now we get censored more than the US ever has. In recent years, Left 4 Dead 2 was banned, and the latest Mortal Kombat has been too. This is because for some retarded reason, there is no 18+ rating for video games here, so those titles are refused classification. I'm surprised Madworld got through, but I guess it's violence is more 'cartoony'...
