Title: pac-mania issue
Post by: postmortem on March 04, 2011, 09:31:12 pm
I got a pac-mania arcade for dirt cheap. everything is great except i get music and no sound effects. I did self test mode and it comes up with "Sound RAM2 Error". anyone have any idea what would need to be done to fix this?

Not to sound too obvious but it sounds like a bad ram chip (or something in that circuit).
I think those have small surface mount chips but I'm not sure.

yeah I found where sound ram2 chip is. im gonna bring it to a local place that refurbishes and repairs arcades to see what they can do.

Is it a surface mount?

From the picture of the board I dialed up in Google Images, it prob'ly is. You'd need someone well versed in SMT repair to handle it, or risk having the board get torn up. Most TV repair shops that do component level repair should have the tools and experience to replace the chip if you order the replacement and bring it in with the board (and tell them the location of the faulty one).

Be forwarned.....it *could* be a faulty data/address buffer associated with that chip as well....
