Title: Trade Opinion
Post by: FrizzleFried on March 03, 2011, 11:43:28 am
Looking for opinions.

I have a nice Tempest... rebuilt monitor (with low voltage mod)... cab is in 8/10 condition (some water damage at bottom right side... texture... but art looks great.... new CPO... new marquee... overall a nice machine.

A friend has been wanting the cab... he's asked about it a few times... his latest offer is $700 cash + the Terminator 2 I sold him for $300 (i think it was) plus a pretty nice looking Super Cobra.

Would you pull the trigger?

Unless you have some ridiculous sentimental value associate with the Tempest machine I would absolutely pull the trigger.  My reasons:

1.  Tempest is a game you can play well in Mame
2.  T2 is not a game you can play well in Mame.
3.  In STL where I live I dont think you could realistically expect to get more than $700 for a Tempest - even in your game's good condition.  Plus your getting an additional $450-$500 in game value on top of that.

But to each his own....

Nope. Tempest is unique and pretty sweet.

However... if you are done playing tempest and want a new project - go for it.

If you didnt live in F'n Pittsburgh I would offer you $300 for your T2 so you could have $1k in cash plus a Super Cobra.  But alas......

Do you need the cash?
How often do you play it?
How often are you at your buddy's house (and therefore could still play it)?
It's a great offer, but only if you want to part with it.

I had sold a Donkey Kong I built while I was in Virginia. After the cash was gone, I was stuck missing my Donkey Kong cabinet. I ended up making another one.

Or better yet, do the trade and sell the other two games and get a pinball machine.

This is a slippery slope Frizz. You know anyone with 1 pinball machine?

I have 3... :)

I'm really considering it... if i pull the trigger I'd have about $1,500 in the "gameroom fund"... which puts me in DMD pinball territory.

I did just pick up a jukebox project that'll take some funds too...

...and I know someone locally selling a Star Wars upright (something I really want again) for $700... but the cab's BEAT DOWN condition has me holding off for now... I offered $550 cash... he's not bitten yet.

I see, your either a displaced Steelers fan or you latched on at some point in life for whatever reason.  I was very happy to see GB win the SB though....I dont need PITT getting two up on SF in Lombardi trophies.  One is bad enough.

Idaho, Ohio, same difference in regards to me picking up your T2.....Do you have relatives in STL you want to visit?  ;D

Maybe you could talk PBJ into finding you a Medieval Madness for $1200 from his secret pipeline of cheap A list title games ($300 goes to PBJ for his finders fee)?

I would, you should be able to replace the tempest for less than the $700 when you want to.
