Title: Another Aimtrak help seeker
Post by: NipRing on February 27, 2011, 11:31:34 pm
Ok, i just bought a pair of aimtraks all set up in guncon bodies from member KonkeyKong. I'm trying to get them setup tonight. Plugged the first gun in and it just worked. I did the 5 second trigger pull and calibrated it.Then I downloaded the aimtrak software from Ultimarc, installed it and ran it. First thing it says is that the firmware needs to be updated. I follow the directions in the pdf from ultimarc. However, the when the downloading screen comes up, windows says the program is not responding and the download bar never even begins to fill. I wait, still nothing. Eventually i quit and try again. Except now the gun isnt recognized anymore at all. In fact under windows devices and printers it shows up as UHID Firmware Update  :dunno and the Aimtrak sofware shows "No Device". Was it in the middle of the update? All i saw was nothing happening and the "Program Not Responding" from windows. And even though the aimtrak software doesnt show any device, when I try to do the firmware upgrade i get "Unhandled exception has occured in your application. If you click continue, the app wll ignore this error and attempt to continue. Click Quit, the app will close immediately" Which it does.

Andy from Ultimarc will probably chime in here with more detailed advice, but I ran into this exact same problem when updating my Aimtrak firmware too.

Updating the firmware on your Aimtraks is a 'two step' process. You've completed step one, but you still need to complete step two.

Step one erases something in the onboard memory of the device and prepares it to accept the new update. Your Aimtrak will now identify itself as 'UHID Firmware Update' until you run the SECOND part of the update.

I believe the program you want to run now is called UUpload.exe, and it's located in the Aimtrak folder you created when you downloaded and installed the Aimtrak software. Most likely it's in C:\Program Files\AimTrak or something close.

Run the program with the device connected, select the firmware file (in the same folder as the program, I believe), and you should be good to go.

Oh man, smalltownguy thank you! I'm at work right now and I wish I could run home and try this out! I'll report back this afternoon if it worked. Thanks again!
