Title: Pentranic 1025 help
Post by: skinnyd77 on February 27, 2011, 10:57:06 pm
Hi,

I've got a Pentranic 1025 (25") inside of a mame cabinet I'm building.  I using an ArcadeVga card as a video interface.  The monitor is almost identical to this one: http://www.jomac.net.au/Pentranic_Rodotron_CH288.jpg (http://www.jomac.net.au/Pentranic_Rodotron_CH288.jpg)

Here's what happened:

Once I finally had all the wiring in and everything setup inside the cab, I powered on the monitor and PC.  The boot-up screens and Windows welcome screen came up fine, but the image was flipping.  When I started to turn the V-hold knob on the remote adjustment board, the image immediately shrank to a single line running left to right across the middle of the monitor.  There MAY have been a puff of smoke, but I did not see any, just kind of a metallic smell from the back when I powered everything off.

From hours of googling, I found that I could have any number of problems.  This website http://www.repairfaq.org/samnew/tvfaq.htm (http://www.repairfaq.org/samnew/tvfaq.htm) was surprisingly informative, but put me no nearer to a solution.

The other thing I should probably mention is that I am scared to death of poking around the monitor components, nor are my soldering skills up to par for a task like this (I think).

My best guess is that the knob that controls v-hold is toast, but I haven't a clue how to fix that.

I'm contacting the arcade where I bought the cabinet in the morning, but if it's something I can attempt to fix myself rather than pay someone, that would be obviously a lot better.  There are 1 or 2 local repair places that I can call, but any help or opinions are greatly appreciated.

Thanks in advance
David

Because you mention it is model 1019, I do not think it is a CH288. the first 2 numbers in the Pentranic scheme being 10 would normaly indicate that it requiers an isolation transformer. Check aroud the board for silk screening of the chassis #. If it is a true CH288, you will find that number on the circuit board by the flyback.

If so replace C318 a small Tantalum capacitor, if it gets out of tolerance it can cause all kinds of issues.

Good luck!
Rick

Sorry, meant to say model 1025, not 1019, but same still applies.
