Title: Which command.dat should I use? - Not shorthand V longhand
Post by: Dan_Dan_91_07 on February 26, 2011, 01:14:21 am
Hi, I have searched around for an answer to this question (of cause), but I have not been able to find one.

I don't know which is more complete the one mentioned on the Wiki, which hasn't been updated in a long time - http://home.comcast.net/~plotor/command.html (http://home.comcast.net/~plotor/command.html) , or this one, which has been updated recently - http://mamecommand.blogfatal.com/index.htm (http://mamecommand.blogfatal.com/index.htm), or an diffrent one which I do not know about.

Help, as always, will be appreciated.

Edit - Okay, I know I said the topic is not about shorthand V longhand but if the Wiki's one is the best, is there a difference in terms of how complete they are? I am asking this as one was updated last in 2007 and the other in 2005.

I don't think it matters that much.

There used to be custom builds of mame that supported command.dat.... now, not so much.  That isn't to say that it's gone the way of the DoDo, there are still applications that support it, but it's rather useless unless it's displayed on-screen.  I think it stopped being updated simply because it's mainly useful for fighters and a new fighting game (that actually runs) hasn't been added to mame in quite some time.  I figure either one would be just as good.... the one released in 2007 probably just took the one from 2005 and converted it,  with minimal to no additions.
