Looking to do a dual light gun MAME (and multi emulator) cabinet.
I'd love to use MaLa as I plan on using multiple emulators.
The makers of the light gun say it only works with MAME32.
Can I use MaLa in connection with MAME32 ?
-
also does anyone know of a PS1 (PlayStation) emulator that would work with MaLa ?
Thanks
-
BS, the light gun will work fine with regular MAME. MAME32 is just the GUI version of MAME, also its not called MAME32 anymore its now MAMEUI. A good Play Station emulator is epsxe, MaLa is configured for it.

Thank you.
I have my MAME set for v124.
My current DK JR project is using the command line version 124.
I'm thinking I'd get the newest command line version of MAME when doing my latest project.
I should be ok with my ROM set correct ?
(project is going to be a dual light gun cabinet running multiple emulators and strictly light gun based games)

I'd like to get PS1 & Sega M2 emulator running on the system.
Fingers crossed !

Yep, Mala is quite happy with mame32 (",)

I don't think any light gun games have changed since 124, but i would use clrmamepro on your roms to fix them up if needed.

I've never used CLRMamePro, is it easy to use ?
If it's easy and would work, I'd just keep my command line version of MAME (v124) that way my ROMS are paired.
I'm hoping to get the PC for this project this week so I can start to install all the needed Emulators and ROMS.
Looking forward to this project.
I think I'm going to have some issues installing everything, but I'm going to follow Uncle T's guide as best I can.

Make sure you get the latest version at the end of that thread!

Cool. Thanks

I have another question.
As I noted I'm going to begin working on a new project cabinet.
A dual light gun project that will feature strictly shooters.
I plan on featuring a mostly complete list of shooters ranging from NES to PS1.
I've begun desiging my MaLa layout which I have posted below.
I've never done anything on MaLa over and above MAME itself.
However I want this project to be very simple and straight forward.
Do I have to have different screens to indicate which emulator you are in ?
Or can I have all the games display in one list regardless of emulator ?
Or like in my current set up when I move the joystick left and right I go between lists, most played, favorites, etc.
Am I able to set up an option that would allow me to switch emulators by simple moving the joystick left and right to cycle through them.
Thank you

Simple question, complicated answer. Play around with it, learn how it works.

I always end up messing around with it, tweaking this and that.
But any help or tips on the matter would be great.

When creating a layout, keep in mind that anything that doesn't seem to have an obvious 'control' to might warrant a right-click in the area.
Regarding overall set-up: I have a vert cab that is 15khz. I have one list of games, that appears on boot-up.

I recently picked up the PC I'll be using for this project.
I'll be using the newest version or MaLa and the newest version of MAME.
Multiple consoles will be included, NES,SNES,PS1,Dreamcast, and anything else that had lightgun games.
I'm using Uncle T's guide to do my install. It's amazing and very thorough, so far it's been a HUGE help.
Compiling all my data I noticed that my NES/SNES and several SEGA ROM sets are unzipped.
I believe I had these ROM sets from an XBOX project I did prior.
Going through Uncle T's guide I came across the section that indicates what ROM extension to specify.
I noticed that several consoles indicated ZIP, however my ROM sets are not ZIP.
If I enter the correct extension that matches my ROM set will this work ?
Or does this mean the emulator itself looks for ZIP files and if not found it will not work ?
** something tells me like an idiot I one time unzipped the files. I'll look in my EX HDD to see if I have these sets some other place should I need the files zipped after all **

As long as your emulator supports the filetype, and you properly input it into the MALA configuration, they should work fine.

I got the NES + SNES ROMs again.....just to avoid any issues.
As far as the Sega M2, PS1, and Dreamcast emulators go I leave the contents of the game in its individual zip folder.
The emulator itself will see and have the ability to work with the file, be it ISO, NRG, etc ?
