Title: borders around games 0.106 (scaling?) noob question

Hey there, first time poster here
basically im a n00b with name and im jusst putting the finishing touches on my cab
im having a problem with all games, there is borders around the game, ive tried a load of different options in the mala mame.ini configurator (dont want to breakout notepad just yet)

best i can get is the game to fill either all the vertical space or all the horizontal space but not both and it varies by game, is there anyway to scale out the game to fill the entire screen? i understand in vertical titles it probabaly isnt possible but in horizontal it should be. specs below.

Generic SiS motherboard with everything integrated
duron 900 cpu
128MB ram (will be more later)
40GB HDd
windows xp
17 inch lcd

any advice would be much appreciated

do you mean artwork around game itself?  if so....rename your artwork folder to some other name so mame doesnt see it.

I want the game to take up the whole screen, or at least the vast majority of it.

106 is pretty old...so I am going on the whim...
in your ini file do you have:
maximize                  1
??
