Which is better for a cab. Why?
Thanks
-
c'mon man! Give me your opinion folks!
-
xbox has more shumps if you are into those.
otherwise jailbroken ps3 is just as good if not better. both cost about the same.
-
I'd go PS3 personally. Library is just about identical and the hacking is piss easy. Not sure I'd want to play either machine via arcade cabinet, though.
I was thinking the same thing, especially with the heating issues they both have. Couldn't see cramming them in a cab as being healthy. Especially for a 360.
-
How is cramming them in a cab any worse then cramming them into a home entertainment center?
I just want to be able to save games to the hard drive so I can play SSFIV, MvC3 and do some emulation.

Not sure how your entertainment center is but mine is pretty open...the 360 has plenty of room to breath when in there. If yours doesn't have room you may be on your way to a RRoD before long. :)
I don't know though..I am not saying it is a bad idea or not to do it, I am just saying that I personally wouldn't...I make sure my 360 has plenty of room to breath. ;D

Plenty of room in a cab. Not talking about a bartop, talking about a full size cab

You'd be surprised how hot it can get in a full size cab.

It would depend on what you want to play. For fighters I think they're pretty much all released on both systems. But if you like shmups then you HAVE to choose 360.
As for difficulty of hack, the PS3 is purely software, and possible on all models I think, whereas the Jtag will recquire you to find an older model 360, crack it open and do a little soldering. Plus we all know how reliable 360's are, I'm praying that my Jtag never dies. If it did I'd be stuck importing a lot j360 and lot of expensive games..

^This. I've had my Japanese 360 (Jasper model) inside my EGRET II since I got it, about 2 or 3 years ago. No problem so far. I have a small opening in the bottom of the cabinet, don't know if this helps, but I think that unless you carry your 360 around when it's warm they don't break no more.
-
I don't know about all that. I have had 3 Jaspers RRoD on me and they always just sat out in the open on a desk. I never moved them or carried them around. I would say that you are just lucky. :)

A JTag 360 is just so hard to find, and I am not going to pay out the nose for a reflowed 5 year old JTAG.

Yeah, I've heard that once they get their tast of the RROD, they want it again and again. >:D Re-flow, x-clamp or whatever is the latest fix won't matter much. A couple of more months.
-
yeah, I REALLY want a Jtag 360, since I am an xbox guy, But all the ones I am finding are like 200+ bucks and don't come with jack. After I get a hard drive and all that jazz, it would be easier and about teh same price to just get a PS3 and jailbreak it.
-
ps3 is not all software. the jailbreak still messes with the nand. "pure software only" is original xbox1 softmod. and ps3 cfw is only for firmware 3.55 or lower. eventually there will be a newer cfw.
-
I'm not sure what the state is with the xbox 360, but ps3 has final burn alpha and mednafen. But they are right, xbox 360 has a crap load of shmups released.

have you tried ioffer.com before? looks really unsafe, check out the link below. You can see conversations between the seller and buyer, the seller convinces the buyer to send money via western union.

I had both an x-clamp fix and a re-flow that both failed within 90 days of doing each. I ended up having a full re-ball of the BGA done on my JTAG with leaded solder. It cost about $80 and has a 2 year warranty from RROD from the guy that did it. I think a BGA with leaded solder is definitely the way to go if you get a JTAGable system.
-
all that.... :dunno
guess I got lucky. I own a falcon and my brother has a zephyr(both hdmi) and our xboxes never red ringed. had them for years. my very first launch day xbox withour hdmi red ringed after about 2 years tho.
-
Yeah, I have seen ioffer. Looks shady, and most units are reflows that are barebones.
-
one of the BIGGEST mistake I ever made was to not buy ALL jtaggables I had access too :banghead: I had the chance to buy microsoft 1st party refurbished(most had new set of mobo/dvd drive) halo3 jtaggables for $80 shipped and the dude had about 20. thats a wholesale price of course. those xboxes can be considered as "new". few people here got it from me and they are all happy campers
this is also the first time I am ever hearing about jaspers breaking. they are SUPER popular on XS forums and are considered the best fat xbox360s you can buy.
-
Well my buddy is giving me his rrod 360. Gonna try my hand at getting it running again and incorporatin it in my cab for the fighters; MVC3, SSFIV, Soul Calibur, Blaze Blue, MK9, etc. I am going to get it flashed so that I can play backup discs in it, that way I dont have to worry about games being messed up. I figure that way I will be ready to swap it out with a JTAG 360 once SNAAKE gets a hold of one. Then I will have a cab that plays classics and then with the flip of a switch it will play new gen games
-
good stuff, (borderline fanboy comment here) 360 is the known preferred console for fighters. well capcom ones at least..
-
the whole "xbox is preferred for fighters" is a dumb gimick. I know fighting games in and out and they are all same on both consoles. major tournaments ran on ps3 without any problem. people always find random excuse for losing. friend of mine was like "yo I am not used to the ps3 version" :hissy:
no no..you are just......bad ;)
-
well, the only diff I noticed is that the ps3 sfIV takes longer to load. Not sure if it's an issue when backed up on the hdd.
-
yeh, i think theres a few more things..
only have to look at japan where ps3 is king, all the top ssf4 guys are on 360, i think mostly because of the 1 frame input lag frame difference, (xbox is pretty much arcade perfect, about 4 frames input lag, where ps3 has 5), since those guys still play at arcades and use 1 frame links, so 1 frame out, no link.
same in other places ie aussie/nz but mostly because lags a bit better on 360
-
Hmm during gameplay I didn't notice anything. I guess an expert would. Normal players don't really care :dunno: , either way it seems like you got yourself an xbox 360. nice! Good luck w/ modding it.
-
Yeah, I already have a 360, and don't want to mod it because I like playing on line and stuff, so I was thinking about getting a second one for my cab, i would prefer a jtag just to save me the hassle of swapping out discs. But a free one just dropped into my lap. so I'm going to try to fix the RROD and then flash the drive so it can play backups, that way I don't have to worry about xbox games getting messed up from friends swapping discs. Won't be as cool as a jtag where they would just be able to select the games off the hard drive, but cool enough I suppose. Not sure if I will try to flash the drive myself or have someone do it for me. I can get it done locally for like 20 bucks :dunno
I do plan on mounting the dvd drive externally from the xbox, so that the xbox stays hidden.
-
Nice, so you'd have the dvd drive on the outside so you don't have to open the cab ? Nice idea. Playing online is definitely a plus... but can't they detect flashed drives? by they I mean Microsoft.
-
Right under the CP, where a lot of people have a keyboard drawer, I have a panel that hinges down where I have a shelf for my light guns and controllers for emulators. I plan on mounting the drive on this hidden shelf in an external drive enclosure. That way the 360 is hidden, and there is only the drive showing.
I am debating the whole flashing the drive thing. I kind of want to because then I don't have to worry about the game discs getting messed up or misplaced or anything if guests want to swap games. But then this machine would not be connected to the internet. I may decide to not flash the drive, that way I can hook it up to XBL and use it play others on-line.
What do you all think?

Well, it depends. If you you have friends over regularly I'd go ahead and flash it. So this would be great if you're a college student or single, I don't think it would be an issue to find a person to play against in that situation. If you're married, then being able to play a quick online game would be a great way to spend some time if you can't get buddies over. I alway find playing the computer boring personally. I'm not even good at fighting games, it's just not as fun.
