I found a local guy that will sell me everything I need to convert my cabinet to a 1300-in-1. Is this very hard to do for someone who's never done it before? I've been googling but I haven't found any good guides yet.

Not very hard but an old PC and MAME will give you alot better performance and more choices for customization.
-
It would depend on some variables. Like what is your cab now? Is it a real arcade cab with a Jamma connector in it? If so, then swapping in the new board and maybe adding a few extra buttons would be pretty easy. But like BobA said, if you wanted to be able to customize it more, adding a PC and MAME instead would get you that. But if you're not that technical swapping boards might be easier I guess.

Is your last name Shabbadoo?

Yeah,
If your cabinet is currently a jamma cab, then the 1300-in-1 will be easiest if you don't want a major project.

I think OP would find much better advice on this at the KLOV forums.http://forums.arcade-museum.com/ (http://forums.arcade-museum.com/)
We're more into simple woodworking and building custom MAME cabinets but they're more into technical Cabinet restorations and gut, hardware work. Give them a try and I'm sure you'll find plenty of info on building or restoring a JAMMA based cab.

Why aren't most of us on there too.
(though I haven't been in a while) ::)

The only other great community resource for Arcade cabinet enthusiasts I think.
