Title: mame input help
Post by: methodical on February 10, 2011, 10:37:25 pm
I've set up MAME before but am now having trouble with it. I have the Input (general) set for my panel but the Input(This Game) controls seem to override it. How can I set it to only read from the general input?

throw away the cfg file for the game. Input(this game) always takes precedence, if defined, on a game by game basis.

k, problem is that is seems to create a cfg file for each game when it is run. Is there a way to turn that off?

nope. just dont change the input map for the game and it will use the defaults.

Tried deleting all of the cfg files that it made for games, and it's still doing the same thing. It creates a cfg file for the game with the default mame input keys and runs that.

Isn't that what you wanted? It now defaults to the 'defaults', unless you override them individually.

it was defaulting to MAME's original keyset instead of what keys I set it to, but I did eventually get it fixed starting with your suggestion. Thanks :-)

Hey I came upon this old post and I've got a weird variant problem... I used cfg magician to make a bunch of cocktail-DIP-switch-flipped cfg files, so I can't delete those.

My issue started with the P1 and P2 start buttons (They're to be programmed to u360 joy button 4 on Joy1 and Joy2)
I figured maybe I could go back into CFG magician and make another cocktail list, this time also configuring the start keys, but those are some of the only undefinable keys in CFG magician.

As far as I know, cfg magician creates NEW cfg files that you're supposed to place in the mame folder system, you dont edit the existing cfg files.

Is there another way to program P1 and P2 start mame-wide?  Or am I going to have to either A.) flip all cocktail switches to ON manually or B.) Define P1 and P2 start in all games manually?
