Title: First basket case... Nba Jam to Hyperspin
Post by: Billy on February 09, 2011, 08:22:58 pm
Here is a few shots of my nba jam. Its pretty much hosed so I have been putting together some parts to convert it.

Parts list so far...
-----
1) Games Family Killer Edition 1315 in 1 p4 2.4
2) P4 2.8GHZ/1M/533
3) 2TB W/D SATA HD
3) 2 New Jamma Harness's
4) 400 Watt ATX Power Supply
5) 4 Universal Joy Sticks
6) 24 led lighted pushbutton's
7) Jpac
8) All kinds of misc parts including other p4 or amd's boards/video cards ect...

I am really going to need some help with this thing. So some questions I would like to ask...
Are these P4 boards strong enough for hyperspin?
Would it be a waste to use my KE 1315 in this project?

If so what do you guys recommend as the bare minimum for running hyperspin....

Thanks for your time in advance...

I'm running a Phenom II quad core @ 3.8 Ghz with 4gigs of ram and and an Nvidia GeForce 7600, and Hyperspin can still act choppy :banghead: :banghead: Its because it is using a LOT of Adobe Flash, which is basically the software equivalent of Duct Tape.

Not the good duct tape, the stuff from the dollar store.

Why don't you just use the 1315 in 1 board set and call it a day? Doesn't it already have a front end?

Well I wanted to post some front shots before I get started. So I could remember what a turd this thing really is atm. I have been reading up a bit and looking at other midway cabs here on the forums. There really is a lot of killer cabs to study.

You can't really tell but I do have quite a bit of bondo work to do to this cab before I can even lay down any paint. I wonder how well this cab will take that paint and how much sanding is really needed before I can prime it up. You see the darn glue seems to be still on the cab from the nba vinyl that was on one side. It's smooth as a babies butt, not tacky at all & hard as a rock. Then the other side all the glue is gone and it is rough as hell.

Not sure what the best approach would be atm... I know the weather is getting ready to break so it's time to get busy!

Thanks for the post... Seems like a powerful computer you have there and it makes me wonder how fast your hard drive is? My KE board does not have sata onboard so it would require an add on card in order to run my 2TB W/D. That's kinda a downside on my end but I do have a lot of other real nice boards albeit a little on the old side.

As far as the 1315 it's just a hard drive with win2k Chinese. I also have the 1940 as well. Nothing really great about them no flair at all like hyperspin. So I guess it the flashiness of h/s that has me hooked. I guess I need to pull out all my mother boards and get them ID again so I know what the heck I am working with in reality not guessing...

my hard drive is a 300gb WD velociraptor. So its quicker than the average bear. I am a web developer in my professional life, so I do know a thing or two about flash. Take a look at your performance monitor while hyperspin is running, with transitions, particle effects, etc. It'll try to consume every resource available, and that still wont be enough. It will get better with time, I would hope. If all I cared about was running MAME, none of this hardware would be necessary. I'd just load up v .99 on an old P4 and use MALA. Im running a variety of other emu's though, and PC games, and I also like the glitz that hyperspin brings.

What you should do is take a tape measure to that Pole Position and get the dimensions for our buddy HarumaN before you do anything else!

Maybe the new release of Hyperspin will improve its resource usage or maybe not.
