You know the movies I'm talking about. The ones people love and for whatever reason, you don't.
A movie that fits that description to me is Clockwork Orange. People always talk to me about it as if it's some gift to filmography and when they find out I don't like it. They take it upon themselves to explain to me the real message about the movie. As if thats the reason I don't like it.

agree with the tarantino call, i liked pulp fiction, but he has to be the most over rated director of our time.

Avatar..it was obviously a movie that only works in theaters in 3d because I watched it at home and found it stupid and fake looking. But everyone who seen it at the movies in 3d said it was amazing.
Transformers..I loved the toys when I was a kid and the cartoon as well but the movie was one annoying advertising ploy. It felt like a big commercial. And the shaky cam gave me a headache.
I actually like Blade Runner and Clockwork Orange, and pretty much all Tarantino films, although I do admit that they are too dialog heavy at times and the dialog that exists tends to be dialog that no one would really say in real life. But I enjoy the way that he pays tribute to old movies in most of them. I am also a fan of old kung-fu movies and blaxploitation films so that is probably why I enjoy them. heh but whatever.

Yeha, I like the Tarantino films, the kill bill series is cool.
+1 Dr. Strange love. I have sat down to watch that move no less than three times and EVERY time I ahve fallen asleep, the only movie I have ever slept through :)
In my opinion, the overall winner (loser?) has to be Sideways, a bunch of unattractive people going through midlife mating rituals. Not at all entertaining.

Mel Brooks movies: I find most of them funny although I haven't seen one since I was a teen so my humor may have changed.
Matrix: I liked the first one but didn't LOVE it. The sequels were terrible.
ID4: I forgot about this one...it was horrible.
Kill Bill 1: Loved it.
Kill Bill 2: It changed from mostly action to mostly dialog...so not as exciting...but I did like the scenes with the Pei-Mei training, and the fight in the trailer between the 2 chicks.

Nah...I like Clockwork Orange and The Shining...2001 was just very sloooooooooooooow...if not for the pacing it wasn't a bad movie.

I've never had an issue with the pacing of 2001, but I know plenty of people who have. The gorgeous visuals and storyline are what appeal to me. That, and monkeys fighting with bones. :cheers:

Pretentious to the point of kitten danger. Stupid dialog, annoyingly over the top sequences, costumes and music that make me want to punch pregnant cats just to be ahead of the curve. Full of actors/actresses I can't stand to begin with.

Yeah I have the same love-hate of Tarantino films, but he really redeemed himself with Inglourious Basterds.

I liked all of Tarantino's films..wasn't a gigantic fan of Death Proof though. I enjoy all of the over the topness of it all.
I also like most of Rodreguiz's films...although often similar and having Tarantino as an actor. (Obviously I am not referring to Spy Kids or Shark Boy and Lavagirl..lol)
I know people who hate Tarantino though so it's not shocking to me to run across more. Just like I know a lot of people who hate Rob Zombie's movies but I enjoy them. However I was not a big fan of Halloween 2.

Anything with Will Smith in it. The only movie he was semi decent in was ID4 but of course I saw that when I was 17 so whatever.
I dunno if Inglorius Basterds redeemed Tarantino for Deathproof. I wanted to kill myself during that movie.

I do like quite a few other Kubrick films.but this one....just ugh. Don't worry, there wasn't a box of kittens near me at the time I viewed this film.

I am a big fan of horror movies, but nothing past 1990...the 90s was filled with no gore, clean cut, bubblegum Jennifer Love Hewitt horror. And they all seemed to be slashers trying to make another Scream. (ahem...I think Scream counts in this list too. People like this movie.) And now in the 2000s it is nothing but crappy remakes that don't hold a candle to the originals. And the one's that aren't remakes tend to just be stupid.
I prefer horror from the 70s and 80s. And zombies and Bruce Campbell. ;D

I know virtually no one here will agree with me, but No Country for Old Men.
I really liked it until about 2/3 into it, then it just fell apart and made me hate it. When I saw it in the theater, people actually boo'ed when the credits came up, so I know I'm not completely alone in my opinion. It's a shame since I love almost all other Coen bros. movies.
Also, both Lost in Translation and Sideways put me to sleep.

Alice in Wonderland with Depp. I can't stay awake through the first 1/3. It keeps coming up so I assume it has some popularity.
Underworld. What a way to really ---fudgesicle--- up the whole wearwolves vs vampire thing. In fact, toss on the whole vampire love lust films in there as well. What are they called? Vampire Diaries or some ---steaming pile of meadow muffin---? Vampires need to be scary, not fodder for chick flicks.
Hellboy.... I'm sorry I ever bought that DVD. Every person I ever talked to about Hellboy likes it. Why??
Almost any shake cam film. In Blair Witch it was done to great effect. WTF is it doing in a film like Transformers? It's not too bad, but some movies and films are really pushing it bad. I got nauseous watching the new Stargate show. I honestly think the problem are new camera operators who don't even know how to hold a ---smurfing--- camera properly and cheap ---steaming pile of meadow muffin--- producers. Those that do know how to hold a cam are asking for too much money.

First off, witches aren't scary to begin with so right off the bat I am not scared....second...the entire movie was a bunch of annoying teens arguing but you didn't see them half the time...I actually wanted them all to die. And the fact that they tried to hype it up as a true story is even more retarded.
I also agree on Will Farrell....every movie he plays the exact same character except for in job title..same goes for Jim Carrey.

Most of the people I knew who loved that movie considered anything more than 200 yards into the woods scary under normal circumstances. I liked the movie but started to get more annoyed with them being lost within walking distance of their car than anything else.

My goodness what were they thinking!? I was actually loving the movie up to about when the two secret shuttles took off. After that it was all I could do not to stand up and ask the theater, "Are we really going to finish watching this!?"
Points that stick in my memory....
1. The Mir is NOT a gas station! And even if they could take a little of the fuel, what was the MIR doing with enough fuel to power two shuttles round trip to the moon.
2. When this movie was made the MIR was barely holding together WITHOUT the stress of swing two shuttles around to simulate gravity.
3. Okay... their going to nuke something the size of Texas and split it down the middle? :laugh2: I live in Texas... it's BIG.
4. Why exactly did they mount a machine gun on the drilling rig? Did they think they they were going to run into aliens that needed a good whomping?
5. My favorite... The surviving shuttle lands and all the loved ones run out to meed the hero! Yes! Uh... wait... How did the stripper from the bar get access to the flightline? :-\
The list just goes on and on...
It's my favorite movie to hate.

That movie could have been better without the Liv Tyler/Ben Affleck whine fest. I had to keep telling myself that I wasn't watching a chick flick.

Gotta say I like a lot of the movies in this listing. LOTR films were great, 1st Matrix good, others not so much, Clockwork Orange was good as was the book, most Tarantino films, just saw 6th Sense again the other night. Surprised I don’t see anyone bashing the Harry Potter films, but again I’d say I enjoy them.
Bladerunner is on my list of movies to see, so can’t comment on that one yet. Agree on Avatar, it’s just Fern Gully on steroids.
But for movies that many like and I don’t:
- Twilight series. Don’t think I’ve ever seen worse acting in a movie that is huge.
- Batman films whenever they give him a love interest.
- Controversial pick - Godfather films. Drives my wife crazy, I can’t watch them. I would rather be doing pretty much anything else than try to sit through one of those.

I agree with your likes too. LOTRs was great to me...however way too long for repeated watching. I will occasionally put on one of them...but I can never sit through all 3 simultaneously. I really don't have that kind of time. ;D

Thing is, the first movie is an excellent adaptation of the first book. I sat down and read the book "just to see what the fuss is about" and was dropping it on the floor and groaning several times through. The movie is JUST as bad and captures the book 100% except that you can't play "count how many times she uses the word 'beautiful'" with the movie.
The second and third movies have gotten slightly better... I'm not sure why I keep getting dragged to them but I guess it's the shirtless amerindian?
Fourth movie is going to be quite interesting... my understanding is that the main character has sex with the vampire and then gets converted so they have some kind of omniscient-Dune-baby that the werewolf falls in love with and marries or something.

I was forced to watch Twilight by wife...we both hated it. Sorry, but sun=burned up vampire in every other book/movie/story. Twilight vampires sparkle...WTF?
Now for the rest of the hatred: Star Wars episode 1...hated by many SW geeks, but still a popular movie.
I also hate pretty much every Robin Williams movie except Good Will Hunting. I hate Mrs Doubtfire, Good Morning Viet Nam, Patch Adams, etc.
I too couldn't get past the shuttle part of Armageddon. Wife gets bent out of shape hearing me ---smurfette--- about even if they were launching 2 shuttles at the same time, WhyTF would they be 100 feet apart...ridiculous. I also thought the same thing about the gun on the rig. And let's not forget about the ridiculous explanation of how the rigs handled little to zero gravity, but how about the individual people? Did they have magnetic boots or did they also have little thrusters pushing them down too? I like a little science in my science fiction.

Anybody who says Will Ferrell is bad in everything has never seen Stranger than Fiction, which is spectacular. Otherwise, though, he's pretty consistently unbearably obnoxious. Even the hilarious Wedding Crashers is just cringe inducing in the few scenes with with him in it.

Hell... actually that wipes out most of the popular movies that suck right there. Hold on, let me finish it off with two more lines.
Any remade or re-imagined franchise/film in which the original was already a classic. This would include adaptations of comics and video games as well. The exception being maybe King Kong.
Any film made popular by teenage girls. Seriously I think teen girls must go through several years of mental illness during puberty. Absolutely nothing they think is cool actually is.

I agree with the Will Ferrel except I liked AnchorMan and the other guys. Step Brothers had some hilarious moments; but over all I think hes better as an extra then a main guy (he almost ruined the Lady's Man which is so bad I like it)
I also agree with the twilight and LOTR hated them. But for all the Kubrick hate you cant hate "Full Metal Jacket" its just too good of a movie.
I'll add a new series into the mix, the Saw movies, all 54 of them.

But after that one the history became so boring,dreaded,and the most i think i just cant figure out, HOW THE HELL DID THAT GUY COULD THINK OF EVERYTHING...every trap ,every single way that everyone was going to act, wtf was he god or something, i hate that so much...

I guess I'll be in the minority and say I really like most of Will Farrells stuff. Anchorman would have to be one of my favourite movies.
There's quite a few movies listed which I enjoy.
Baz Lurhmann films annoy me - say about 5 mins of Moulin Rouge turned it off, unfortunately had to endure the whole Australia movie at the cinema, only good bit was the fighting.

Twilight was not just stupid, it sucked as well. I remember after watching it and ragging on it to my sister, she told me that the new ones will be better because they have a bigger budget to work with. That usually works out well (Clerks vs Mall Rats).

Not saying something doesn't make it any less true. Those movies are absolute garbage. I don't care whether they're smart or dumb. They suck balls in pretty much every way possible. Unwatchable.
