Title: Upgraded to Windows Tiny XP64, now my U360's aren't working
Post by: cmoses on February 07, 2011, 11:43:54 am
I had my arcade machine up and running on Windows XP with Hyperspin, joysticks, buttons and trackball all working fine.  I wanted to see about streamling the OS and making it a bit faster so I reformatted and installed Windows Tiny XP64.  Got it installed, installed Hyperspin, roms, etc.  Got the trackball and buttons working, but I am having issues with my U360's.

I don't know if I forgot to install something or tweak something but I do not get any response from them in Hyperspin.  They are set as joystick ID 0 and 1.  They show up and respond fine in UltraMap.  I have installed LEDBlinky and pointed it to the directory.  I have selected joysticks in the controls section of Hyperspin.  But I still do not get any response from them when I run Hyperspin.  I have checked the log and it says "joysticks failed to initialize" but that is all I see.

I fear it is something dumb that I am just overlooking, but I have not been able to figure it out.  Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I have also posted a help topic on the Hyperspin Support board, but since I am not sure if it is a Hyperspin issue or a Windows Tiny XP64 issue or what the problem is I thought I would also post here.

Thanks

XP64 has heinous issues...  it is, by far, the worst 64 bit OS I have ever tried.  I've always gone back to XP32 bit when building a machine with XP.

If you end up using XP32, let us know if you can program your U360s.

I Have XP64
and I have no problems with my U360  (I'm using Maximus as my FE with LEDBlinky 5)

couple things to check:
Run Mame without going through HS
try HS without LEDBlinky
see if you can narrow down the problem

The only issue I've had with XP64 is changing the pole rate for a spinner, and I finally got that worked out
Now I'm really happy with it, runs a bunch of games I couldn't on the 32bit

Bender,

I will check the things you listed.  I know it doesn't work without LEDBlinky as I did not initially install LEDBlinky.  I need to see if they work when just launching MAME.

Gray_Area,

The U360's worked fine in XP32.  I had the machine working fine including the joysticks with XP32.  I did use LEDBlinky, but it was an older version as I had configured the machine about a year and a half ago.  I wanted to see if I could get a little more speed out of it for some of the more complex games and some other emulators, that is why I reconfigured the machine with Win XP64.

you mean HS or the sticks don't work without LEDBlinky? I was using LEDBlinky 4 until recently and it was fine on XP64
If the sticks work in Ultramap then it's not the OS but the software, Try Mala just to see if they work through that

Had a similar issue with HS where none of the controls would work.  As soon as I exited HS everything was back to normal.  Had configured HS to start-up cabvol in NORMAL mode when I should have used MINIMIZED

No, I meant TinyXP 32. If you end up going that route. Mine works, but I can't program it.
