Title: Gettin Ready to Re-enact Road Warrior
Post by: Aceldamor on August 21, 2003, 01:50:14 am
I've got my Crome Hockey mask, a Merchette (sp?) and a bad attitude....I'm ready to crash a tanker so I can get it's fuel.

If you haven't heard (I'm not sure if it's made national news), Phoenix, AZ is in a gas crisis. The main line that supports Phx, is down, causing no less than 1/2 or better of our gas stations to be without fuel. This crisis has degenerated to 1 1/2 hour lines of angry people, overheating cars, and at the pump with gas at it's cheapest being $1.92 a gallon and as much as $4.00 a gallon.  There is hope on the horizon, but for now its one jacked situation.

It cost me 32 bucks to fill up my gas tank today on my 2000 Blazer, only after sitting in a line of cars for an hour and a half....I'm tellin' ya, I'm about to go Road Warrior....."The fuel.....the precious fuel..."      ;D

*end of rant. *

I feel your pain, but to correct your poorly hodge-podged reference.

(Waring going into geek mode)

Master-Blaster did wear a hockey mask looking helmet, but he did not use a machette.  You are confusing him with Jason Vorhees.  Master blaster ended up with a chainsaw in the thunderdome scene.  Which brings me to my next point, the hockey mask wearing character was in Mad-Maxx: Beyond Thunderdome, not Road Warrior.  There were several other mask wearing characters in those movies, but all had clubs or guns ect.

To confuse things even further, the classic wrestling tag team of Road Warrior Hawk, and Road Warrior Animal (also known as the Leigon of Doom)  went through a brief period of wearking helmets which were painted to sort of resemble hockey masks.  Their gimmick was based upon the movies.  As mell Gibson was the "road warrior" and never wore a mask, I have no clue where that came from.

The only reason I mention it is to this day when some people think of Jason they impropely mention "oh that guy with the hockey mask and the chainsaw"  improperly meshing Texas chainsaw-massacre, thunderdome, and Friday the 13th.   The opposite effect can also be seen for the other movies.

Jay Sherman the critic says:  Only you can prevent improper movie references.  ;)

Actually, HC...I wasn't pointing out "The Hughmungus" as he was called per say, I was using the setting as a whole in my example... and YES he did wear a metal mask that resembled a hockey mask with leather straps and was the lead bad guy in THE ROAD WARRIOR....see pic below.

and yes...Jason Vorhees wore a hockey mask, but didn't get it until the 3rd movie....

"Blaster" didn't wear a hockey mask at all, he wore a black kinda helmet, and that little guy who's name was "Master"...on his back (Kinda like the dwarf in Golden Ax 2) but you are correct by saying those characters Master/Blaster were in Beyond Thunderdome.

See pic below for "The Humungus"

You see...I too can drop knoweledge.

Yeah jason  only has a brief childhood cameo in the first film and he wears a sack in the second.

Yeah, I said he wore a hockey mask looking helmet.  It's metal and brown and looks nothing like a hockey mask, but I've still heard people call it that (for the above reasons) so I went down that road.

Forgot about Humungus, but then again no knife in sight.  I knew someone else wore a mask and that's why I mentioned there were others.

Anyway, I understood where you were going and I hated to get anal, but everyone else probably won't. That's why I brought it up.  ;)

Did you consider just NOT gassing up. Only reason gas prices go haywire in situations like that is because everyone rushes out to fill up, even if they don't need it.

I used to live across from a gas station, and on 9/11 the line was nearly a mile long. The next day it was back to normal.

I decided to double check a few facts and I stumbled on this: Mad Max: Fury Road (http://movies.yahoo.com/shop?d=hp&cf=prev&id=1808405016)

For proper technical reference, that long blade is called a "machete". It's a Spanish word so it's easy to spell. The English language has a lot of trick words, but Spanish is very straight forward once you learn the rules.

Oh, I haven't gassed up every time I spend a quarter of a tank..but that dosen't mean a majority of everyone else hasn't..ya know?

Loved Mad Max (1st one) & Road Warrior - watched them both countless times.
I rember going to see Beyond Thunderdumb (the spelling is on purpose) the very 1st weekend it came out.
I could hardly wait.
Boy was I disapointed; I hated it!
Tina Turner, though easy on the eyes at that time, should never have been cast for that role.
And as far as Master & Blaster goes, the Hughmungus would have wiped his back side with them.
My point of view, the theater had a huge whooshing sound when this movie played - that's how much it sucked!
That's what happens when some shmoe is HollyWeird decides he wants to cash in on a truly unique import movie (or TV show for that matter).
The plot was totally dumbed down for the masses - all flash & no substance.
Ok, I'm off my soapbox now.
...& yes, I'll be first in line again for Mad Max 4.
I'm a glutton for punishment. :-X

For those who care for an update....

Gas prices are still on the rise, with the lowest prices being around the $2.10 range on the lowest side and still around $4.00 on the high side, the pipe that was broken just failed a water pressure test to get the line back up. Thier temporary solution, build a crossover pipe. The proposed crossover pipe is 2 inches smaller than the main, causing a bottleneck in the transfer, but at least we will start getting some of our usual supply back. Our gov. has lifted the environmental reg. on winter fuel and we are being shipped that mixture of fuel..Lines have settled a bit, but there are still huge lines during the morning rush and afternoon rush, when people are going to and leaving work for the day.

On a positive note, with the drastic price jump on gas, AZ legislature is finally considering an anit-price gouging law.....ABOUT F'in TIME!!!

Oh, and I watched the Road Warrior for about the 3rd time over the past few days....what a killer flick man! "For reasons long forgotten, 2 great warrior tribes went to war...."  ;D

Oh, cry me a river.  I live in Alberta.  My house is pretty much on top of the gasoline.  They charge us 75

Yes but you must remember, as you are canadian you drive a fuel efficient car.  Here in the US every other car gets about 3 miles to the gallon.  ;)

On that note though, have you ever noticed that gas prices go up like 5, 10, 15 cents at a time, but when they announce that due to war or whatever gas inflation will be reduced it drops like a penny a week, over the course of several months?

That's messed up.

Gas companies in North America base their prices on the world price for gas - even though we don't import any.  That's how they make so much damn money :).  They blame it on taxes, but there's no way the gas prices in Iraq are going to effect us here, at least not in Canada anyway.  All the gas I use comes out of my back yard.  It drives me nuts.

You do realise that most of you will still be alive ( or at least your children will be ) when crude oil runs out or becomes to costly to obtain. By then though most of you will either be under water ( ice caps ) or dying of skin cancer ( ozone hole ).
Either that or the greys will have completed their infiltration of the US government and will commence sterilsing the human population as part of their 100 year plan to take over the planet.
Damn where's my tin foil hat! Mumble mumble droool.

That's global economics.  I don't like it, but if it weren't done this way the entire global economy would fall into crisis, all of our pets would be killed by a deadly plauge caused by the excess of crude lying around, we would be forced to use primates as pets, teaching them to be more and more human until they eventually rebel and take over the world.  Of course the apes would re-write history, thus making it appear that we are the inferior species.

Lets face it guys, nobody wants a world where apes evolved from man.  That's just bad for everyone.  Don't sweat it, pay the few extra cents for gas and pray that Bo-Bo doesn't wise up.

Wow!  That was pretty convincing. Maybe Exxon should hire me as their spokesperson. :D
