Hi all, figured I'd do the official announcement here of my Mame cabinet project, finally convinced the wife to let me go through with it. :D Can't promise how fast it will get done, since we have a Baby Boy due in 3 weeks, so I'll be pretty busy, but was looking for some thoughts while I have the time. I picked up a 25" working cabinet in pretty descent shape, was converted to a Soul Caliber at some point, but not PCB inside, threw a Street Smart in there for now, so I have something to play. Figure I'll go the IPAC and ArcadeVGA route. I did a quick model up of my control panel layout I have planned and was wondering what your thoughts are on it. 2 Happ Super8 joysticks, Player 1 with a restrictor plate with 4-way and diagnol restrictors, 3" trackball, spinner, 6 buttons per player and P1,P2 start buttons. I figured I could just use the shift function on the IPAC for Pause, Esc, etc. etc. Let me know what you think.

I think that having a baby due in three weeks is gonna tie you up just a little bit there, dude. ;)

That's for sure, just figured I'd work on it when I had the time, may be a couple months before I find it though. :) Got a pretty good deal on the cabiinet, so that's why I decided to pick it up now.

Nope! You won't have the time. You better give me the machine so it doesn't go to waste. ;)

That is one great cab to MAME, pretty much perfect for what you want.
Good on you for going the ArcadeVGA-IPAC route ( by far the best way to MAME IMHO ).
What did you spend on the cab out of interest?

I picked up the cab for $150, which I am pretty happy with, especially since the monitor looks great running the Street Smart pcb. Just had to to take an afterwork roadtrip of 1.5hrs and drag it back from Canada, easy trip though. Changing the control panel around a little bit, I just picked up a PS2 3" trackball with 3 buttons, so am moving the spinner over and putting the buttons next to it. Also trying to think of a more ergonomic way to lay out the 6 button setups.

Just posting the progress on my cabinet in case anybody is interested. Hard to find a lot of time to work on it with the new baby, but it's coming along little by little. Just need to add the marquee bezel, spinner and volume knob to the outside, then I can start wiring things up and building the PC. Hopefully in a few more weeks I'll get to fire it up.

Why did you ditch the (Soul Caliber?) overlay that was on the control panel? That looked nice to me.

I didn't care for it all that much and didn't really like the layout that was already there, I remade the whole control panel top. I did however pull off the control panel overlay and ebayed it along with the Soul Calibur marquee, made $50, so I was happy.
