Saint's gonna be pissy in a few minutes. The boards are blowing up by Driverman/dipshit/asshat.
:laugh2:

I'm serious ya'll... NZ road trip. We can take him out for
lynchlunch!

What spam? :)
Nothing to see here...

BS. 70+ threads and it took Peale to get the job done. I think a coup is in order around here. >:D

I'm going to need you to come in and fill out some paperwork there Hoopz....

When "President" Peale tells me to do it, it'll get done. :P

SILVER_DUCK is having a good in the MAIN forum
-
I reported one of his first posts around 10:00. but we can't expect a mod to watch the boards 24/7.
He's been at it for 45 minutes.
He started in the less frequented forums so he wouldn't be noticed as fast.
-
If you need more mods im available, keep wierd hours usually
-
Hey he's had his blog since 2007, so how about everybody file complaints against him so he loses it? Also post lots of comments. NOW!
http://---saint's note - please report this post to moderator, and do not reply--/ (http://---saint's note - please report this post to moderator, and do not reply--/)

Been doing it since he first started spamming ... apparently he doesn't want to approve my comments ... :dunno

For those who don't know what the story is here:
Driver-Man/insert-alias-here has a desire to see controls for 720 (and presumably other games) implemented in MAME optimally. He disagrees with the methodology used in MAME currently, and does not agree with the advice/analysis of how to properly implement the controls in MAME as presented by those who actually code for MAME. He believes they are wrong, they have explained to him that he is wrong. There are more details but that is the gist.
The problem is his manner of presenting himself. Condescending, insulting, borderline language, etc. I reminded him multiple times to follow the rules of decorum in the forum, gave him a final 3-day warning ban, then a permanent ban after that when things did not improve.
Since then he has been increasingly spamming the forum, initially in PM's, then spamming posts all over the various boards.
:dunno I don't understand getting so worked up over a small thing like this on the Internet. There are other places he could have this discussion on the Internet where he would not be subject to the rules and moderation on this forum and MAMEWorld, such as alt.games.mame.

Couldn't the guy just be given a thread in the p&r section where he can let off steam? Some of the points he makes are valid, and he does seem to know his way round MAME's source code. It seems a shame to ban him altogether.
-
Give me his IP address and email if you have a real one, i'll have his name home address and phone number within the hour

He's not being banned for what he know, he's being banned for how he's behaving. Honestly, Saint has given him much more leeway in the past to present his case than many of us probably think he deserved. Kudos to Saint for that, but in this case, the punishment certainly fits the crime.

But what about my emotional trauma? In trying to read his thread, I think I permanently lost some IQ points. His multiple posts wasted my time. I want restitution! I sent him a message that he needs to call my lawyer.

And where is that whole thread now? It's gone!!! Why?
saint's note - see my reply in this thread for why that thread is gone
There was a request for Derrick's source code, and message disappeared in a matter of minutes. Who dares to ask for Derrick's source code now? Try it, then they will ban you too, and maybe then you will take my side, how about it? -- We can be friends, you know?
saint's note - I have never banned someone because I did not agree with what they were saying. People will not be banned for asking for Derrick's source code. People are only ever banned for not following the rules of the forum re: decorum and civility. Aside from spammers, I can count the number of bans on less than 2 hands
Your friendly neighborhood Driver-man.
saint's note - you and I have a different meaning for the word "friendly."
-
Oh, by the way... as a token of friendship and good will, I will not spam the forum with this 'clone' of mine. -- In return, I ask the source code, and possibly binary too, of Derrick's NEW changes is made available to public, BUT separate from the rest of 141u1 changes.

No.

If Derrick wants to do that it's his prerogative. I will continue to delete posts that are antagonistic, belittling, or otherwise hostile unprovoked. This is my home on the Internet you came into and treated like your playground. You were my guest and did not conduct yourself accordingly. I don't think my rules of courtesy are overbearing or unreasonable. If you disagree with them there are other places on the net for you, such as alt.games.mame. Until you demonstrate and convince me that you are able and willing to follow the rules of decorum on my forums, I will continue to ban your accounts and delete your postings.

???
Grasshoppers idea has merit. The dude is shooting himself in the foot by going berserk on this forum. He is self-fulfilling the idea of being censored by ensuring his posts get canned. give him a space in P & R only to let vent. But just one thread for starters. He probably had some good points, but I couldn't read through all that crazy talk. I mean, if the complaint is about the 720 controls or whatever, I would be inclined to agree. But it's all free ---steaming pile of meadow muffin--- so why get worked up about it? Just start work on your own 720 emulator if you have teh mad skillz...
-
Just for the record, the mame devs, Giles in particular, are more than reasonable. I've asked to have controls implemented differently and some other pretty outlandish things over the years and so long as I could give a valid reason for adding them, they were added.
Also the nice thing about mame is it's open-source. If you want to add something that the mame devs won't allow do it! You can maintain your own custom build for your own use or release it to the public.
Long story short, behavior aside, the poor guy doesn't have a leg to stand on anyway so nobody need come to his "rescue" by giving him the benefit of the doubt.
-
No kidding huh? He could just release "Driver-MAME" and then over time if it's popular, they'll merge it in.
This guy must have some sort of mental issues, Aspergers or something, to be so obsessed over this.
-
Saint doesn't need to give him a space in ANY forum. There are rules and he chose not to follow them.
He's a drama queen. He likes the attention. Look at any other board he's been linked to! He goes there, claims he has a revolutionary software fix, and when he's told why he's wrong, he starts playing the role of tortured, misunderstood artist/programmer. Next week he'll probably go try to tell Apple he's got a software fix to ensure the iPhone always gets 5 bars.
-
Just to add some of those details that Saint left out.... here is a snippet from the latest what's new of mame:
720 - added Driver Configuration option to allow the controls to be
set to Real 720 Controller Input; fake joystick; or fake spinner. It
defaults to fake spinner for mouse/spinner use. [Derrick Renaud]
Changed the Analog Controls menu to only list controls selected in the
Driver Configuration. [Derrick Renaud]
As 720 enthusiasts know, 720's controls have been kinda wonky in mame for ages. This new addition to mame will allow purists to have the dual-spinner inputs that 720 originally used while people with more generic setups have their pick of either digital or analog controls.
On a personal note I don't know how in the world anyone could take fault in a driver change that gives everyone what they wanted, but I thought I would post just so people would better understand what the complaint was.
-
So what is the complaint? The bloat?
-
So what is the complaint? The bloat?
Well, y'know, with 640k of RAM and a 20M hard drive, one has to be careful what one keeps on their computer.
Oh, no, wait, this isn't 1991. I'm not sure what the complaint is.
-
So what is the complaint? The bloat?
The binary Derrick uploaded was 2mb bigger because it wasn't compiled the same way as the standard mame binary.
Therefore Abaraba has concluded that Derrick's code resulted in 2mb of bloat (even though it's only a couple dozen lines of code).
Abaraba's code, which he created by following the step by step instructions found here:
http://www.jstookey.com/arcade/720/720-arcadejoy.php (http://www.jstookey.com/arcade/720/720-arcadejoy.php)
is done in less lines of code, but it does not handle the calibration disc the way the original game did.
Wanting the driver to reflect the way the original equipment handled the input was what started this whole 720 debacle.

lol wut
:laugh2:
This is actually quite common.
Compiler and linker (especially) options can have quite an effect on the output size. For example, if the original binary is dynamically linked while the new one is statically linked, an additional 2MB is reasonable and possibly even on the small side. Changing compiler optimization flags can do something similar, though the effect isn't usually as huge as some of the linker options. Heck, sometimes just using a different VERSION of the same compiler (let alone if you're using a different compiler) with the same options can change the size of the output by a fair margin.
Inclusion/exclusion of debugging symbols can also be pretty dramatic, especially on a diverse application like MAME. These debugging symbols don't actually do anything when running the program, but if they're present, it's a lot easier to debug the program with a debugger or via crash reports. Including such things seems perfectly reasonable for an experimental build, but the normally distributed version of MAME probably doesn't have them.
Besides, who cares about 2MB at this point? It'll take me another 5 seconds to download (on a 4-5Mbps connection) and use another 0.0002% of my hard drive (1TB hard drive). Oh noes! If it's truly unnecessary bloat, then, sure, look to get rid of it, but on a test build to check out a concept, it's not a big deal. It's not someone added 2GB to the thing.

No.
I wonder if saint can change usernames for banned accounts? I mean, just have a bit of fun with it... Driver-Ban, Ferbandez, etc. etc.

MonMotha,
2MB just for one unnecessary menu option?
That is the size of the whole .37 binary, hello?!
I can fit whole operating system in less than that.
2MB of unnecessary code bloat is equivalent of making a TV casing out of brick instead of plastic. It's like building a house with an elephant on the roof. It's UNNECESSARY & PURPOSELESS, to the point where it's just plain insane. We are talking about applied mathematics here, and that's where "unnecessary" is something that can only cause problems and inconvenience, as is quite obvious if you actually try Derrick's binary. So, why is it easier to talk about it for weeks than just simply test it? Download, start the game, move joystick and mouse a bit, press few keys, and that's it - only then you would truly _know, as opposed to blindly believe in someone else's assumptions.
-
Once saint bans you, again, I'll reply.

It's not 2mb of unnecessary code, it's just compiled differently. 2mb of compiled code is several thousand lines of code, and it's unlikely that much has been added. I'm betting if the the old version of the code was compiled the same way, it's 1.99mb larger then the previous officially compiled release.

How would you _know? Did you see his .diff file? Where is it?
Is he still not able to figure out those 'mysterious options' and compile a PROPER binary?
-
Once saint bans you, again, I'll reply.
I can't wait, so I'll just excuse (ban) myself then.
But, before I do so, I would like you to know there is not any such options he should be messing around with in the first place, and the actual reason why there is 2MB extra bloat is obvious to anyone who managed to grab his .diff file while that thread still existed on MAMEworld forum. It contains over 1000 lines of new code, and changes to core input and menu engine: inptport.c, inptport.h and uimenu.c; which is quite unlike Driver-man's solution that is even smaller than what was there before.
-
NO ONE CARES!

Agreed.

everytime you get banned you come back. And you will continue to be banned once you realize this web forum is not your personal playground for disruption. Give it up and move on. You can be a welcome member here just like everyone else if you play nice just like everyone else seems to do so. Thread Closed.
