Title: Mala fonts
Post by: eds1275 on February 01, 2011, 02:02:21 pm
I have a question about the fonts in MaLa. Since I have tinyxp installed this may be my problem. Is mala limited to it's own fonts, or does it use what's installed on the system? I have only a dozen or so choices, all of them similar.

Just verified. It uses what's on the system, just grab the TTF files and install them to your tinyxp system. It wouldn't surprise me if Fonts were one of the things that Tinyxp leaves out by default.

So many things were left out when I installed tinyxp, that I canned it and installed a full version instead...

Thats the first issue I've had, though mine is dedicated to the machine - no internet or flash or anything. What other things did it leave out that you needed?

So many things I got tired of hassling people about how to fix it. For instance, I wanted to take a screen shot, but I couldnt save it in anything because there was no MS paint. I wanted to listen to a sound sample, no media player. When I tried to put in media player, other files were missing. You could say that is because it is TINY after all. But to not be able to take a screen shot is pretty limiting. Also, it was missing enough things that I couldn't install anything extra from an actual xp cd. So any time I needed something that wasn't there, I had to go on the net and try and find what I needed, because my tinyxp install wouldn't let me find anything else on the legit cd. Then it occurred to me that I actually have a legit copy of xp!, and someone told me there is no problem installing it on this machine. It's the only machine now using that copy.Turns out there is not much speed advantage to having so much stripped out nowadays.

First indication that I did the right thing by installing the full version was when I found my IPAC was working properly again. Who knows what was missing to not let it work properly? I probably would never have found out how to fix it. No one will ever know. But there is no need to with such a simple fix!

That's just my story though. You probably won't have nearly as many problems. But you can see why I decided to can the tinyxp install...

edit: another thing that pissed me off was that anytime i connected a USB device, it would go through the whole rigmarole of 'finding new hardware' each time, but instead of doing it automatically, I would have to click through the process in a pop up box. A bit of a hassle when one of the 'new' pieces of hardware was the mouse! I would even have to go through the whole process if I took a USB device out of one socket and put it into another
