Title: Pinball Sucks. It really does.-- NOW WITH PHOTOGRAPH PROOF WHY!
Post by: MameMaster! on January 25, 2011, 03:33:13 pm
...it pulls you in with that hypnotic silvery sphere and the flashing lights. Next thing you know you own 3 of them!

(yep-- I just bought my 3rd-- pics soon).

Nice!

My first was a Jurassic Park, and I sat on that one for a good 6 months. After that I thought, "well, I could use one more to compliment it, so I might as well get an old favorite." After that I picked up a Twilight Zone, not realizing that I had taken a step--wait no, a leap--onto the slippery slope of pinball madness. Now I have 7 machines downstairs, 4 in the garage, and 3 more machines at a friend's and my family's homes.

It's crazy how addictive the silverball can be. :D

I've been in the hobby for 2 years or so.  In that time I've owned 4 different machines.  I own two currently - both in storage until I close on my new house.  Which is tomorrow!  I get to rescue my babies on Saturday!

At some point in the distant future I'd like to bring my collection to 3.  Not exactly sure which one though.

HERE'S MY LATEST LOVE---

The Theatre of Magic!

I got it from the same guy I got my Simpson's from. I knew he would deliver it and help me get it down the stairs to my basement so I've been watching his Ebay auctions for a while now.

I used to do magic at kids birthday parties, and actually was the manager of a magic/novelty shop throughout all of college so this was a great fit for me.

The machine is in great shape....and I feel that I paid a fair price (it was more than what I thought I would spend but in line with reality).

It needs a small amount of cosmetic work to get it into the $4K + value range-- but I'm well on my way as I ordered up a ton of stuff for it today.....new legs, replacement plastics for 2 cracked ones...the usual stuff.

I had to re order everything in the basement to make room-- but it fits in the GR like a glove. I still have to neaten up all of my electric cords too...but that's all the fun detail stuff to make it "perfect".  :applaud:

Is it weird that when I see gameroom pics like that I never envy the games?  I always envy the finished space to put the games in.

Since I've never seen slots under pins at the arcade I thought a table would be more appropriate... ::) :laugh2:

Re the pac man neon stuff....Ebay. Direct from China. Just look up Pac Man Neon. There are few sellers. They're about $35 bucks each (large) shipped and the small ones came in as set for $45 shipped.

Yeah, and you never saw TVs, chainsaws, tents, or ice chests under pinball machines and that's what I've got under mine.

 ;D

Under mine:  Bins of books, paint cans, pneumatic tools, broken game consoles, empty coolers.

Nice pickup on the ToM.  It is a favorite of mine.

The game room looks really nice.

Sounds to me like you just have too much ---steaming pile of meadow muffin--- you need to get rid of.  Then maybe you would have some space?

Maybe it's true.  I could totally fit more games under my pins that way.

You can slide two games sideways underneath 3 games that are setup, but you've got to stash the heads somewhere else.  That's how a guy here crammed 32 games into his two car garage.  He had the heads stacked on each other 2 high and 3 deep against the back wall.

Heh.  I have my folded games under the basement stairs.  I definitely have a lot of crap I should get rid of but the stuff under the pins is there because it gets used.  It's easy access storage.

Really?  You really have an issue carrying out the logical progression of my comment?  For those of you who need it all spelled out, it stands to reason that if you need to store stuff underneath your pinball machines then one could conclude you have lots of other worthless crap stored all over the place....otherwise why store crap underneath your pinball machines?  So get rid of the worthless ---steaming pile of meadow muffin--- that is cluttering every corner of your house so you have room for less worthless crap.....like more pinball machines.

Ahem....licensed in MO and IL thank you.  And I'm thinking about sending in my TX application so I can audit you for back taxes.  I might be willing to settle for your entire pinball collection.

True but more judgemental that it should be.  We have a whole family of very active people in this little house.  There isn't much here that doesn't get used in some capacity during some point of the year.  The broken game consoles have to go, though.  They have been getting fixed and moved along one at a time.  I have a stack of 2600s that are done that have to go next.

Well dont think your getting a deal.  I assume your liability would be relatively small.....I mean you have to have income to owe taxes.  Arent you a stay at home hobbyist?  ;D

I have a pinlift under 1.5 pins and open space under the rest. Well a bin of parts for the one that is in mid-clean up but other than that I'm clean. You guys need to get bigger rooms. Build building to house your games. If you don't spend some amount of money on construction for your gameroom are you really in the hobby?

I was hoping you weren't going to say that. I've been screwed by direct from china too much to be taking another  risk of purchasing direct from them again.

In the last few weeks sold 3, gave away 1, uhm...

8? set up, 1 wrapped in plastic and always trying to buy more..

 :banghead:

I decided about 4 years ago I had gone through 30 games.  Now I just say "over 40" and quit counting.

 :pics

next time you wanna give a pin away , LMK I'll pay for shipping.

If you have to build to store your games than you have moved way beyond hobby.  I'd rather send my kids to college.

Not necessarily a separate building but power upgrades or finishing off the basement or moving walls to make it bigger.

One of you really needs to visit San Antonio with cash in hand, it's getting well overdue to lighten the load around here.   :-\

<----- In La Grange.

With cash in hand.  Unfortunately no truck.

What makes you think my games aren't already in the basement?

Either way, work with the space you have, or have less stuff.  It's a hobby.  It's not a business.

Sold two fully working EMs for $100 each a couple weeks ago.  Was told that was way too cheap but.....

That's a steal... I love EM's so would have jumped all over that deal.
