I managed to purchase a Zenith C27V22 http://www.managemylife.com/mmh/lis_pdf/OWNM/L0411252.pdf (http://www.managemylife.com/mmh/lis_pdf/OWNM/L0411252.pdf) from Craigslist. Couple noob questions here, the monitor has a HD-RBG input on the back, this can be plugged directly into my computer with a standard 15 pin monitor cable correct? Do i have to worry about the sizing or refresh rates of different games? Lastly, I wanted to strip it down to just the monitor itself, the thing is a beast 32 inches wide and 98lbs, without the cover it will be roughly 28 inches. Do i have to discharge the monitor just to strip it down? I'm not going inside the monitor and tinker with any components and where exactly does the shock come from? Thanks!

HD signals and computer RGB signals are very different.
you can set the computer to display 640x480p or 1920x1080i and it will display it okay. it appears that the TV wont display anything else. so low frequency signals like 15k or 25k probably won't display at all.
this TV looks like it's pre-HDMI but post progressive scan so i't in a real transitional period where standard frequencies and connections where not quite standard yet.
oh...and give this a read it will answer many questions regarding stripping the monitor down/discharging etc..

So will this tv work good for mame? You said it will display "okay", when showing regular tv the pic is great. Want the results to be awesome, not just ok ;D Sorry for the primitive questions, this is completely new to me! Thanks
-
if you use it for MAME you will not be able to display the games in their original resolution.
therefore MAME will have to stretch the image to fit the screen. it will still look good, but some people are sticklers with having it run in the exact same resolution as the game was originally. :dunno
the only way too see if you will like it i guess, is to hook it up and try it. but according to the TV instructions the only resolutions that port can display is 640x480p or 1920x1080i it may do others... hard to tell.
all you can do is try. but yes you should be able to just plug in a regular old VGA cable to it, set the windows resolution to either 640x480p or 1920x1080i and give it a try.

I've played with the zenith C27V36....as the lil` said it does 480P or 1080i. Mine is via DVI....like the others have said, if you're not looking to do native resolutions then your tv is more than adequate. 640x480 should be sharper than most tvs. Ieventually found a multisynch that does native res...that kept me from using it as a game cab and instead used it in the kids room.

Thanks for your help! OK, I've discharged the monitor and stripping it down. The TV speakers are not necessary for my cabinet design, so i can cut and cap the speaker wires, correct? (http://img232.imageshack.us/img232/2307/92684774.jpg)
-
you can, just hang onto them, don't toss them just yet.... sometimes people decide to use them later on...
some people even just use the amp to drive the cabinet speakers.

Now need some help decasing this monster. Got all the connectors disconnected from the board and now I need more ?s answered. There are 3 cables that are connected and they don't seem to want to come off (labeled 1-3 in picture) should i cut and reconnect them using butt connectors or is there any other way of disconnecting them? Haven't pulled really hard yet, cuz I wanted to ask first. Note: it is an HDTV if that matters. 2nd pic shows where the cables are going and they are connected to the same place the anode cap is. DO NOT CUT or try to remove ANY of these wires.
the two mid sized wires are for focus voltage ( 8kv-12kv typical) direct to crt socket.
smaller red wire is crt screen grid - neck board
just discharge the tube - then remove the anode connection
pull the neck board /crt gnd wire- deguassing connector ( main pcb)
pull the yoke connections on the main pcb
since spkrs disconnected , at this point the chassis can be seperated from the tube .
to eliminate a possible surprise, discharge the crt again prior to reconnecting the anode - be sure its seated properly

Hmmmm, this may be a little over my head. My background is in CCTV & alarm systems. Pretty technical, but never tore apart monitors --BINGO! Either that, or I was attempting to say "before" but it was too many letters to type--. Is there a video or tutorial on what u r talking about? Are all CRTs like this or bcuz it's an HDTV? Thanks 4 ur help
-
been like this for the history of tv.
tv was developed in the 1920's, and debuted at the 1939 world's fair.
this shouldn't be "over your head" as a tube/chassis are easily seperated.
you CAN do this - just take your time.
was being lazy yesterday on a tv repair. pulled the chassis rather than move the set .
steps after removing the back were as follows :
discharge crt and disconnect anode
disconnect spkrs
pull out chassis to disconnect yoke and deguassing coil .
pull neck board and disconnect dag ground (wire from neck board to crt exterior)
remove chassis ( a minute or so to do the above )
once fault was repaired , process reversed with the result of a functional tv
just another day

Looks like i found the TV guru qrz! :notworthy: OK, when you said "pull the neck board /crt gnd wire- deguassing connector ( main pcb)
pull the yoke connections on the main pcb" I know where the degaussing connection is but the crt gnd wire is where? Also the yoke connections locations. Thanks for all your help!
-
being a Zenith ,
the crt ground wires are white and connect via clips to the ground braid on the tube and neck board shield.
yoke cables are split into h/v pairs .
Horiz will be red/blue - follow from yoke to main pcb and disconnect
Vert will be green/yellow or green /brown follow from yoke to main pcb and disconnect
-
Allright, got everything disconnected except for those 3 flippin wires. Do they disconnect from the neck board or do i remove the neck and leave them attached? Sorry, ain't quite following what ur saying. Thanks!!
-
screen wire is soldered to the neck board . the focus wires attach directly to the crt socket . just leave 'em all.
you'll have the video/pwr buss lines connected to the board anyway . just don't use excessive force on any of it .
don't stress over nuttin' ;)

Got it. Thanks bud, you rock!!!

I apologize for bumping an old topic but I have an opportunity to get this same monitor for 40 bucks and wanted to know how the display ended up being ? Did it Stretch the games native res to intolerable amounts ? What can I use to be able to get the games to play in their native res? Thanks for everyones patience and understanding toward my noobness
