Title: I Support this site (BYOAC) do you?
Post by: extendedplayarcade on January 20, 2011, 02:29:23 pm

I been staring at the "support this site at no cost to you" banner for awhile.  I didn't notice it through out the Christmas season or I would of clicked it a whole lot sooner but I just bought another copy of Black Ops for Xbox360 (i already had bought it for ps3 and through the prestige and looking to do it on both consoles) through the Amazon affiliate link for this site

Here is the link link if anyone doesn't notice http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/ASIN/047089153X/buildyourowna-20 (http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/ASIN/047089153X/buildyourowna-20)

I haven't noticed a thread for this but if there is I appologize.  Just my Opinion that there should be one and post what everyone bought to show their support.

Thanks
Brent

Using the link, I bought some stuff around Xmas time, I preordered Saint's new book, and once I get my $20 for $10 gift card (as seen here), I'll spend it through that link as well. It's the least I can do.

Not only that, when you buy something through a vendor advertised here, in the comments of the purchase, let them know you are a member of BYOAC so that they will no their ad money is well spent.

ok I changed my Amazon book mark to the one for BYOAC,
Now does anyone know of a way to automatically set it up so that when I do a search through google and click a link to amazon it will go thru the BYOAC link?
A large % of my amazon purchases are made thru google searches

I will use the link from now on as long as it is up. Does anyone know if it still supports the site if you leave the objects in your cart for a while? I tend to pre-shop quite a bit on Amazon.

To my knowledge you would have to re-search it from the link from the web site banner.  Then ad to cart.  I think amazon has a 30 day cookie too.   I sell from amazon as well but if I buy from my account i get no commission so I am happy to buy from Saint to support seeing i just love this forum.

We did Coinopspace last month and I just didn't get off my butt to set up a new thing on our home page, but for every order of 25 or more from our site, we'll pitch in $1 for BYOAC.  Last month we raised $75 for coinopspace, and I threw in some extra for an even $100.

And it was so much fun we are doing it again!  This time $1 for every order over 25 in Jan and Feb will go to BYOAC!

We thought about auctions, but to us these communities are much more important than a raffle or auction.  Check out www.klov.com (http://www.klov.com), www.coinopspace.com (http://www.coinopspace.com), forum.arcadecontrols.com, shoryuken.com/forum/ and many more!  These places are amazing resources we want to support.

Not only that, when you buy something through a vendor advertised here, in the comments of the purchase, let them know you are a member of BYOAC so that they will know their ad money is well spent.

Thanks for bringing that up.  I don't think folks understand what it costs advertisers to have those Google ads at the top of their screen.  Aside from the normal stuff I, like other long-time members, try to do here to support users of this site, we have also had an ongoing $250 - $300 a month budget with Google for quite some time.  The vast majority of that amount is targeted directly to this site.  So as long as it looks like the order volume is being sustained, then we know that the advertising is doing what it should, and the money stays here.  We don't do this contingent upon orders, but in advance of them, with the hopes that the money is being well spent.  At current, we get very, very few folks who come to our site as a result of the ads here, give us a heads up in this regard.  So a note in the order comments that you did so, would go a long way toward helping us know that what we are doing is working out for all involved.

Thanks in advance,
RandyT

This may just be me, but I NEVER click on any banner ads regardless of what is being advertised. But I am more than willing to click a link in a vendor's signature. I think the best advertising for any vendor around here are posts from other people's experiences with certain products and vendors' posts offering support for their products and posts about new products. Knowing that a product will perform in a certain way by reading about other people's experiences will make me more likely to consider that product in the future. The forums themselves are great advertising.

I would and will, but I just ordered it now. A couple good. honest reviews wouldn't hurt for an "attract mode"

I agree completely.  The problem, however, is that to ensure that the site stays around to host all of this great info, the site's owner and caretakers need to be compensated for the time, effort and expense it takes to keep it going.  I am mindful of that, and as this site has been one of the few sites where I have spent a lot of time in the past ~10 years, it's great that I can give more back than just "content", while at the same time helping to sustain GroovyGameGear's operation.  So as long as that dynamic continues, I am happy to contribute through the advertisements.  Me thinks it makes Saint happy too ;)

Thank you everyone for the support! Paradise Arcade and I have mutually agreed to donate the $173 to the Red Cross for earthquake disaster relief. They need it more than I do :) If you've been thinking of donating to this site, please instead consider a donation to the Red Cross (http://american.redcross.org/Earthquake (http://american.redcross.org/Earthquake)).

Just to let you all know I found this site with Google.  When I started building my cab I had no idea there were sites like this to help me out.  So I turned to Google for all the answers.  And here I am.  I am very new to this arcade thing but I love it, and would like to continue to help support this web site any way I can.

i wanted to add an idea/suggestion! Dont be shy to make SURE that the support link is visible!! if it wasnt for this post , id never seen it !! the site is free and its normal to ask for support!!im not even sure who run this board but anyway, just an idea, make the link more visible! :afro:

I agree with the opinion that you could make the support link a little more noticeable. I would have clicked the Amazon page though here a lot more, if I'd know it was there. Everyone gets a little oblivious to what is actually on their high speed internet screen without a little "flash" to draw attention. Maybe a sticky ??

I'm sure 99% of the people here wouldn't mind doing a little something to support BYOAC.

I was going to use the link but then I worried that someone here might see what I order.  What if it's a little risque or socially inappropriate??  how long before my order history is distributed across BYOAC?!??  Then I fear that when I post something Saint is peering at his screen, squinting at my post with a look of disgust, and mumbling things like "oh now it begins to make sense."  Dont judge me Saint!  DONT JUDGE ME!!11~!`~!!!!!  :timebomb:

I ordered two other items from Amazon.com from this link.

I hope you are getting the funds.   I love amazon.com but i got hosed a few times on my affiliate account.  But i still love um.

My buddies and I are trying to get a sub culture online TV show started called Arcade Culture.  I do the website (in beta stage right now) and we are trying to sells some swag along the way to help promote and have us afford to run more of the shows.

it is an ebay auction if anyone is interested

Thanks for the support back.
